The Coal Authority has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager (Tips) to join the team based in South Wales as a remote home worker. You will work on a full time, permanent basis and in return you will receive a highly competitive salary of GBP21,521 - GBP30,889 per annum (dependent on experience) plus benefits.

We provide expert advice and creative solutions to manage the public safety and environmental issues from coal and metal mining. To enable us to do this, we need to be forward thinking, inventive and robust. The Coal Authority was established in 1994 to undertake specific statutory duties. They include dealing with the legacy of coal mining, treatment of polluting mine water, mine gas emissions, remediating coal mining subsidence damage, managing coal spoils (tips) and ground / mine entry collapses.

As our Assistant Project Manager (Tips) you'll have:

- Qualified to HND/ Degree or equivalent level in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering or appropriate discipline together with corporate membership of professional body

- A sound engineering background preferably in civil and/or structural Engineering

- Experience of dealing with the management and supervision of Contractors and contractual matters

- Good knowledge of ground investigation works

- Working knowledge of slope stability issues and calculations

- Working knowledge of the management of disused tips

- Working knowledge of contaminated land issues

- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software

- Ability to undertake travelling to sites throughout the UK

- Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental issues

- Experience of contractor and stakeholder management

- A good knowledge of construction Health & Safety

- Knowledge and understanding of the risks to public safety arising from the legacy of coal mining

- Exceptional decision, negotiating and organisation skills

- Working knowledge of environmental issues

- Ability to deal with a high volume detailed workload and prioritisation

As our Assistant Project Manager (Tips) you'll be:

- Assisting the Principal Project Manager (Tips) with the inspection and management of mine spoil tip sites and to undertake property site inspections

- Undertaking site inspections, compiling reports, specifying remedial and maintenance works, supervising contractors and consultants and liaising with statutory bodies and stakeholders

- Assisting Regional Project Managers with their portfolio of tip, surface hazard and subsidence projects, primarily in South Wales but on occasion across all coalfield regions

- Gaining experience and knowledge specifically relating to tip management

- Ensuring that a portfolio of projects is adequately progressed and resourced, and that stakeholders are effectively managed

- Implementing project plans and priorities

- Ensuring adequate investigations are carried out to determine the Authority's liability

- Supervising contractors and consultants undertaking research, investigations and remediation

- Undertaking field related tasks as required

- Acting as a public interface, representing the Authority and dealing with live enquiries

- Monitoring project income and expenditure, and reviewing provisions, accruals and future forecasts against budget

- Identifying opportunities to maximise the income and value from our existing property portfolio and seeking out and developing additional commercial opportunities

- Providing advice to other team members across the authority

- Providing 24 hr rota responses to calls to the emergency number
