Kirklees College is a large successful FE college, currently Ofsted graded as Good. Operating across Kirklees with centres based in Huddersfield and Dewsbury. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a modern building, with excellent on site facilities, such as a fully equipped gym, hair & beauty salons and fine dining restaurant.
The successful post holder will be responsible for assessing, reviewing and delivering Deaf and hard of hearing support for learners. The purpose will be to communicate in British Sign Language (BSL)-English and in English-BSL for Deaf/hard of hearing students on a variety of programmes from Foundation - Level 3.
Provision is delivered both in and out of the classroom, supporting best practice. The post holder will need to be able to work on their own initiative, be organised and be able to demonstrate participation in and help with the development of good working practices. The post holder must be able to work in a fast paced and dynamic team delivering learning, support or an associated area of practice.
The successful candidate will have experience of working with learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and experience of working in a post 16 educational setting. Excellent signing, verbal and written communication skills are essential in this role as the post holder will meet a variety of learners with ranging levels of Deafness/ hearing loss, a wide range of needs and varying barriers to learning. The post holder must have the ability to work with a wide range of people, ages, backgrounds with very different needs and respond accordingly to support their needs. Communication Support Workers (CSW's) are expected to formulate effective partnerships with learners, tutors, other support departments, parents, carers and other external agencies.
The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) and the Level 3 British Sign Language qualification or nearing completion. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
