Health Safety & Environmental Compliance Officer

Our client is a global industry leader in medical device design and manufacturing, and they develop pioneering medical products and custom device solutions for the world's leading pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies. THE POSITION
The role will be to assist the HSE Advisor in: the successful delivery, communication and fulfilment of Health Safety and Environmental objectives; contribute to the development of health and safety risk controls; and the maintenance and communication of the health and safety and environmental management systems.
The role will include the design and delivery of effective solutions to fulfil compliance with regulatory requirements and company H&S, Environmental and Quality management systems including training, risk assessments and undertaking ISO14001 and ISO 45001 internal audits
The HSE Compliance Officer will be required to deliver primary elements of Health, Safety and Environmental Training and to ensure mandatory training is delivered to all new starters, refresher training to Associates as required and supporting Line Managers in ongoing training of all Associates including support with toolbox training and IOSH certified training
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out HSE induction training for new Associates
Develop and deliver Health, Safety & Environmental training courses to ensure compliance (i.e. risk assessment, Fire Marshall and First Aid site orientation)
Develop and facilitate with toolbox talks for use across the business and to train Line Managers in the delivery of Toolbox talks and 'on the job' training
Carry out DSE assessments for new Associates, advise, train and document recommendations, including the maintenance of a comprehensive register of DSE assessments.
Liaise with Line Managers and write and co-ordinate and effective Toolbox Talk program.
Train Line Managers in effective risk assessment and ensure associates training needs arising from risk assessments are considered and actioned appropriately.
Assist line managers with implementation of H&S training plans through training needs analysis.
Coordinate and deliver ongoing assessment regime to monitor and evidence competence in Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
Assist the Learning & Development Business Partner in the development and continuous improvement of training courses, programmes, and processes.
Work in partnership with Line Managers to ensure all Associates are fully trained to meet the requirements of their role, and competencies are refreshed and maintained.
Contribute to external health safety & environmental audits and reviews as required
Undertake internal health safety & environmental audits in line with plan and formulate action plan from audits.
Act as internal coach, champion and role model for Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain records and spreadsheets of HSE Training (e.g. HSE Skills matrix; Risk Assessments)
Maintain register of health, safety and environmental non-conformances (Action Tracker) and expedite closure of CAPAs with line managers on a consistent basis.
Coordinate First Aid and Fire Marshall training with respective external parties (e.g. St Johns, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue)
Any other duties as instructed by the Human Resources Manager
KNOWLEDGE
Proven experience in a similar role.
A strong regulatory background with previous audit experience in at least one of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 essential
Comprehensive experience of developing safe systems of work and conducting risk assessments.
A proven track record of creating and delivering both practical and classroom-based training
Strong understanding of Health and Safety and Environmental legislation;
Highly computer literate e.g. Excel/Word and PowerPoint
Operational experience working in a highly regulated industry (GMP)
Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels including senior managers and production operatives
Ability to make sound judgement under pressure.
Team Player.
Ability to lead and motivate others.
Excellent Time Management and organisational skills.
Patience and diplomacy
Systematic and with attention to detail.
A flexible approach to work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Train the trainer qualification (TAP, IOSH certified)
Qualification in work-based assessment; QCF, A1/A2,
Recognised Health & Safety qualification i.e IOSH, NEBOSH
