The Transport Manager will oversee the day to day operations as well as the distribution and collection of goods associated with the site, to meet operational, legal and customer requirements. The successful candidate will ensure that the site runs in a cost effective manner, supporting the strategic direction of the wider business.

You will need to be an experienced Manager and proficient in operational planning and logistics management, people management & development, process improvement with a robust understanding of profit and loss management.

The position of Transport Manager is a very hands-on role, which will require you to be readily available and get involved. You will be dedicated to ensuring the workforce is engaged, well managed and perform to the highest standards against their business set key performance indicators.

You will act as an advocate of the company culture, values and safety standards. You'll also hold regular briefings and meetings with your team, providing them with a platform to suggest their own ideas to improve overall service standards to customers.

Principal Duties
- Arrange vehicle and Driver resources to achieve efficient collection and distribution of goods.
- Continuously liaise with production, service and helpdesk to assist in improving overall plant performance. Plan deliveries and collections as stock levels dictate.
- Direct activities relating to dispatch, routing and tracking of transportation vehicles.
- Plan, organise and manage the workload of the department to achieve set objectives in a manner consistent with the Company requirements and values.
- Operate distribution within agreed cost structures. Continually strive to reduce operating costs and share best practice within the Company.
- Work with the General Manager & Divisional Fleet Manager to ensure the distribution operation is run in accordance with the Company's Operators License
- Assist with recruitment, induction, employee retention and engagement of Drivers
- Continually review best practice regarding vehicle and driver safety and efficiencies with a view to reducing costs.
- Monitor Driver's hours to ensure on going compliance with the Working Time Directive and specific Drivers Hours' Legislation.
- General HR duties to include payroll, holidays and attendance.

Qualifications required
Valid HGV class 2 License with Driver CPC attained as applicable, National or International CPC.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive knowledge of transport operations and management within a distribution centre or logistics business.
- Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety - IOSH qualification preferred
- Transport CPC Holder and up to date knowledge of driver's hours and working time regulations is essential
- Budget Management - Managing P&L
- Experienced People Manager, with a track record of developing successful teams
- Logistics or Production Experience (essential)
- Applicants must be fully computer competent.
