Calf Rearer

About Us -

Uphampton Farm is a long-standing family owned mixed farm based in North Herefordshire. We started rearing calves in the late 90's and the farm also has broiler chickens, cider apples a retail business selling calf housing and a small acreage of arable so there is an opportunity for varied work.

About the role -

The calf rearer on Uphampton Farm has a crucial role to the business as it is not only important the calves are well cared for but also that the unit is always looking at its best as we have numerous visitors to look at our setup with a view to buying housing or feeding equipment from us.

The calves are reared on contract and arrive with us at 2/3 weeks of age. They are fed on an automatic machine on a high plane of nutrition. The applicant will be responsible for feeding, bedding down calves and health of calves on a day to day basis. The calves are vaccinated, disbudded, castrated and TB tested whilst on farm. They are also weighed on arrival, at weaning (if appropriate) and at departure and the applicant would be responsible for all the paperwork involved. The calves leave us between 10 and 14 weeks and it would be the applicant's responsibility to coordinate this.

There are various opportunities for work within other enterprises eg. deliveries of calf housing, chickens, tractor driving on arable ground or cider apples. It would be expected that the applicant would be willing to work some weekends and cover the owners when away from the farm
