Council Tax Officer

Our client is currently seeking a Council Tax Officer to join their team on a temporary basis. This role presents a great opportunity for an effective, efficient customer service driven individual to join this busy team. 

The Role: This will be a varied Council Tax Officer role, responsibilities will include but not be limited to;

• Administering, collecting and recovering Council Tax, Business Rates, Business Improvement District Levy and Housing Benefit Overpayments promptly
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation by instigating action for non-payment
• Interpret and apply legislation to determine and apply decisions in respect of liabilities, exemptions, discounts and other reliefs in accordance with law and policy.
• Ensure processes are actioned accurately with agreed timescales, thus contributing to the teams processing targets. 
• Undertake all telephone, face to face and other enquiries as required, ensuring advice is accurate and clear to ensure excellent customer satisfaction
• Liaise with Visiting Officers in relation to the establishment of liabilities, discounts, reliefs and other enquiries.

Candidate Specification: For this position we are seeking applications from candidates with;

• GCSE A to C level or equivalent including Mathematics and English or equivalent work-related experience
• A professional qualification from the IRRV or similar is desirable or evidence of continued professional development
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to travel as part of the role throughout the county and that you can do this in order to fulfil the obligations of the role.
• Excellent telephone manner
• IT literate, Word, Excel etc
• Experience in a public facing role, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Ability to manage and prioritise your own workload in a pressurized, target driven organisation.
