Job Introduction

We're looking for a Live News Reporters to join our new project in Lancashire.

Working from the heart of the county you'll be bringing the latest news to the people of Lancashire, covering the goings-ons of one of the UK's largest and fastest growing populations.

From finding exclusive stories that need telling across Lancashire, to being out on the scene at live news incidents or taking a look at the redevelopment of Preston, Blackburn, Burnley, Blackpool and more we can guarantee no two days will be the same.

We're looking for someone with at least two years reporting experience, preferably NCTJ qualified (or without equivalent time-served experience or qualifications) and a track-record in digital storytelling.

We are Reach because it's what we do.

Every day our newsbrands - national and regional, in print and online - reach millions of people up and down the country. We are the UK's largest news publisher, with influential national newsbrands such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, and more than 100 distinguished regional titles.

Our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of news and information, with our editorial conviction and high standards of journalism providing audiences with timely information and opinion across multiple platforms.

Last year we sold 540 million newspapers, and our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, viewed by 110m unique browsers every month.

  • Writing directly to the web as required to a high standard taking a 'right first-time' approach to all content and have a pedantic attitude to accuracy.
  • Using digital storytelling tools including live blogs, interactive features, galleries and videos to create the richest possible online experience for readers.
  • Identifying breaking news by the correct use of social media as well as contacts, to know how to quickly establish further factual information, pictures, and video to enhance coverage.
  • Submitting daily ideas to the Content Editor for stories that will engage our audience and stimulate debate and interaction.
  • Assisting in building communities and brand visibility.
  • Generating and publishing SEO-focused content to drive search traffic.

  • Taking a leading role in creating exclusive content and developing relationships with key figures.

The Ideal Candidate

You'll be confident at working up your own contacts to bring in off-diary stories to help set the agenda as well as working at pace to cover the biggest stories of the day.

You will be adept at sourcing stories through social media and knowing how to promote your stories too, you'll be as at home in a Facebook group building up your community contacts as you are meeting a councillor for a coffee.

The successful candidate will have a journalism qualification, ideally to NCTJ standard, in addition to recognised training in media law. A full clean driving licence is mandatory.
