Be a Volunteer Driver...
You will be providing invaluable help in the operation of shops by helping to distribute donated items across shops and customers in your area. By doing this you can support us in raising funds that will help people in crisis at home and abroad. We will always try to tailor the opportunity around you.
Most shops are open Monday - Saturday (some Sundays) with various times available to volunteer. It is hoped that volunteers in this role will volunteer on a weekly basis.

About the team
Helping people in crisis begins at your local charity shop.

Full of gifts, clothes and even the odd vintage gem, our 330 shops across the UK are home to over 6,500 volunteers and 700 paid staff. Our team is bright and bubbly, and we love meeting people from all walks of life.

We want to make sure everyone that visits us has a great experience, and we never forget the contribution our little shop makes to helping those in crisis.

You will work closely with the Shop Manager, shop staff and volunteers, acting as the first point of contact for shops in relation to matters of stock generation, stock transfer, collection and disposal.

What we are looking for:

  • Enthusiasm and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • An interest in retail, logistics/distribution and/or fundraising
  • A full current UK Driving Licence (for at least 2 years).
  • Good interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
  • A person who is fit and active and able to lift and carry various items safely.
  • Minimum age 18. Alternative non driving volunteer roles are available to those aged 15+. Visit redcross.org.uk.
  • Awareness of basic vehicle maintenance
  • The ability to work alone and unsupervised as required.
  • Someone who is willing to complete an induction and all appropriate training.

Typical tasks may include:

  • Collection of donations from the public or businesses across a wide area.
  • Delivering items sold in our shops.
  • Transferring items to different locations
  • Preparing items for transit and ensure they are transported safely.
  • Planning your route to make the most efficient use of time and resources.
  • Completing delivery paperwork.
  • Helping with loading and unloading items
  • Looking after the Red Cross vehicle
