Mental Health Recovery Service Manager

We have an exciting new role for a dynamic and proactive mental health practitioner with management experience to lead a community based recovery service in Birmingham.
The service is delivered across South and East Birmingham from two principal Hubs and from dispersed community locations. The Hubs are located in Northfield and Harborne, serving South Birmingham, and Yardley, serving East Birmingham. You will be responsible for directly managing the recovery service delivered from the Yardley Hub as well as having overall responsibility for the delivery of the whole service and the management of the Project Manager for the South Birmingham service. Our service is part of the City-wide Birmingham Mental Health Recovery & Employment Service (MHRE) delivered in partnership with Better Pathways and Birmingham MIND.
You will be responsible for developing and overseeing a vibrant programme of recovery and wellbeing support, delivered through one-to-one support/casework, structured interventions, recovery college sessions, group work, peer support and peer-led social sessions. You will ensure that individuals are enabled to make progress in their personal recovery journey and to achieve personal goals relating to their mental health/wellbeing, quality of life, occupation/employment and community connections. You will be committed to co-production and able to collaborate creatively with others as our delivery model is characterised by the use of volunteers, sessional workers, peer supporters and by close partnership working with statutory mental health services and voluntary agencies.
We are seeking a highly committed and professional mental professional with significant, relevant practitioner/management experience of developing and delivering recovery-focused community based mental health support. An understanding of recovery principles and methods is essential as is the ability to embed these into practice. You will ensure that the Hubs and community drop-ins offer a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere and that staff are skilled in promoting recovery and positive engagement. You will re-inforce a culture of responsive, person-centred practice, ensuring that relationships are based on respect and unconditional positive regard. You will promote the service to BME groups and all sections of the community and ensure that there is a strong commitment to equality and diversity.
As the Service Manager you will ensure that our services are delivered efficiently and effectively and meet all contract requirements, quality standards, outputs and outcomes. You will need strong verbal and written communication skills and to be confident in the use of IT as you will be responsible for collating data and preparing contract management reports. You will work closely and in an accountable manner with Better Pathways, as the Lead Contractor and with our partners at Birmingham Mind. Your varied and rewarding role will include responsibility for:

- Ensuring excellent customer care
- Maintaining positive partnerships and stakeholder relationships
You must have at least three years relevant senior practitioner or management experience gained in a mental health service. A professional mental health or equivalent qualification, such as Diploma in Social Work or Nursing or H&SC Diploma Level 4/5 is essential. A degree or management qualification is desirable. You will have a good knowledge of mental health needs/conditions and helpful interventions, service provision, legislation and good practice. You must demonstrate excellent assessment, support planning and report writing skills. The ability to contribute to staff training and experience of supervising students on placement is desirable.
You will be able to demonstrate skills in managing and motivating staff and managing their productivity and performance. You will be able to lead from the front and delegate effectively as well as promoting effective team work. You will be warm and emotionally intelligent with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with service users, staff and partner agencies. You will be a confident, credible and professional practitioner, able to communicate clearly and persuasively and to promote the service to multi-disciplinary teams to maximise referrals and service utilisation.
This is a full time role to be worked principally Monday to Friday; however you will be expected to work flexibly according to the needs of the service and this may include occasional evening and weekend working.
