Are you a proactive, compassionate and highly motivated individual looking for that career-enhancing new opportunity? If so, St Giles Trust is looking for an Accommodation, Finance, Benefit and Debt Caseworker to join our dynamic team and help to deliver a full support service to eligible offenders within a custodial setting.

About St Giles Trust

An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need. Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.

About this exciting opportunity

As part of a prison-based team, working in partnership with the local CRC, you will work with a caseload of offenders in custody to ensure any identified accommodation, finance, benefit and debt needs are addressed within a timely manner. This will include sourcing the private rental sector, utilising financial assistance and accessing specialised financial advice, plus obtaining ID and claiming Housing Benefit or Universal Credit.

You will also provide casework guidance and supervision to our Peer Advisors (offenders who have been through our Peer Advisor programme in prison) to maximise the support and impact for the offenders we work with. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with CRC staff and a range of key agencies, housing providers, mental health teams, and other specialist services across the region is also a key element of this role.

What we are looking for:

  • A sound understanding of the issues faced by individuals involved in the criminal justice system
  • The ability to develop constructive relationships with ex-offenders, including good listening skills
  • A thorough knowledge of housing and other issues facing the client-group
  • Strong interpersonal, time-management and work prioritisation skills
  • An excellent communicator, both verbal and written

In return, you can expect a competitive salary, generous leave allowance, staff pension, flexible working, a mentoring programme, an advice and counselling service, childcare vouchers, season ticket loan and much more.
