Graphic Designer (part time)

Following growth within the company and the Cywain project, we are looking for a Graphic Designer to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative company and to work on a project within the vibrant food and drink industry in Wales which plays a vital role in the growth of the Welsh economy. 

The role will be split into 50% on the Cywain project and 10% on Menter a Busnes corporate work.

Cywain, delivered by Menter a Busnes is a model providing targeted support to micro and SME businesses operating in the Welsh food and drink sector. We are now entering a new stage and have received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020 to provide a revised service. Project funding has been confirmed until October 2022.

The service supports businesses to increase their capacity and capability, facilitate knowledge transfer and industry intelligence as well as strengthening supply chain integration. Delivery is pan Wales with an emphasis on collaboration through clustering, adding value, market development for growth and job creation.  Cywain has developed a wide network of stakeholders and integral to the client development is a coherent approach with other delivery partners.

There are three strands to the project:

  • Support for start-up and micro businesses
  • Diagnostic support available to all businesses
  • Clustering and collaboration between businesses to promote business growth and efficiency

Aim of the Role

  • To work to specific design briefs to create concepts, graphics and layouts for the knowledge transfer publications and exhibitions
  • Work closely with the line manager, who will lead and manage the majority of Cywain’s design work
  • Create documents and undertake other work for Menter a Busnes as required

Main Responsibilities

  • A full range of graphic design services for Cywain, including creating concepts, graphics and layouts for knowledge transfer publications and exhibitions
  • Develop design work for print, the web and electronic promotional media
  • Work closely with the Marketing Officer and other members of the team to complete the design projects from start to finish
  • Assist with promoting the Cywain and Menter a Busnes brand by communication internally and externally
  • Use creative and innovative techniques in order to reach a wide audience to promote the work
  • Evaluate the project’s design requirements and suggest the best format / options available within the timescale
  • Manage a relationship with a wide range of suppliers, particularly printing companies, developers etc in order to ensure consistent high quality and value for money
  • Work to the project’s timetable, which is often to a tight deadline, whilst ensuring a high standard and quality
  • Ensure that all publications and customer-facing exhibitions meet the Welsh Government’s corporate branding standards

Other

  • Ensure standards for quality, customer service, equality and diversity, health and safety are met
  • Accept other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required
  • Represent Menter a Busnes as required

Skills and Experience Essential

  • A degree in graphic design or equivalent experience or work-based qualification
  • Experience of managing and delivering creative solutions
  • A fresh approach and a creative, innovative design portfolio
  • A good understanding or experience of the food and drink sector
  • Excellent organisational skills, including time management, for all hard copy and electronic correspondence
  • File management experience including use of various formats and sizes.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills to individuals and groups of varying sizes
  • Experience and knowledge of the whole Adobe Creative Suite - specifically Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work on his/her own as well as within a team
  • Able to be proactive and to drive things forward effectively
  • Flexible approach and able to work to tight timescales
  • Able to keep data in compliance with relevant data protection laws
  • Able to work to tight deadlines
  • Self-motivator, who takes responsibility for applying and revising priorities to complete work and objectives
  • Progressive and enthusiastic about the work of the Food Department and the company
  • Excellent IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, E-mail and the Internet

Desirable

  • Experience in managing relationships with printers and other suppliers
  • Bilingual communication skills (oral and written)
  • Knowledge of the Cywain Programme
  • Use of a car and willingness to travel
