Samuel James Engineering Ltd is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of LV switchgear and control gear systems for the Rail Industry. Based just outside of Leicester, just a few miles from the M1, we are ideally located to serve our wide spread customer base quickly, effectively and efficiently.

Samuel James Engineering Ltd design, manufacture and commission LV (low voltage) Switchgear and Control Panels throughout the UK. We specialise in the manufacture of LV Switchgear, Panel Boards, Automatic Changeover Panels, and UPS Panels.

As a result of our success we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Electrical Design Engineer to work at our Leicester site.   

Main Purpose of the role

Reporting to the General Manager and working as a member of the design team to facilitate the manufacture of high quality electrical control panels for the rail industry.

Responsbilities & Duties

Working within a small team of design engineers to produce designs for electrical control panels and switchboards from initial specification to end product.  Responsibilities to include; procurement; project management; selection of components and testing.

Modification of existing design to meet the criteria of new products using a bespoke ordering package

Essential Criteria

• Educated to a high standard within the Electrical Industry minimum (HNC)
• Good knowledge of the industry product range
• Knowledge of testing methods, procedures and test equipment.
• Autodcad (LT 2000)
• Knowledge of PLC Software packages ( Mitsubishi, Edict, Moeller )
• Extensive experience within Control Panel Manufacture
