As a trainee at Irwin Mitchell, you will spend two years in the personal legal services (PLS) stream, experiencing four different areas of law and getting to know the business more intimately. During your training contract, you will work in tandem with the paralegals, associates, senior associates and partners within each seat rotation. You'll be given practical experience and a real insight into the unique culture of the nation's leading full-service law firm.

You will undertake four seats in total (three seats of four months and one seat of 12 months), each within the PLS division, which includes both private wealth and personal injury. During your training contract, you will experience at least three different areas of law, including opportunities to develop your skills in both contentious and non-contentious work. You will evidence this by maintaining a training diary to record completed tasks against each of the nine practice skills standards as set out by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

We'd love to hear from candidates that have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the law and possess the ability to be flexible and responsive to changing business demands and priorities. We also look for candidates who have the capacity to use their initiative, think creatively and have good problem solving skills, coupled with excellent communication and attention to detail, both written and verbal.

We welcome applications from all degree types, provided you are able to start your training contract in 2021.

The Recruitment Process
  • Online application form (closing date 30th June 2019)
  • Video Interview (take place during July and August 2019)
  • Assessment Centre (take place during August and September 2019)

We adopt an anonymised screening process to further reduce any doubt of unconscious bias when reviewing applications.

We have a competitive benefits package including 25 days holiday, recognition scheme, two volunteering days per year, season ticket loan, health plan, professional subscriptions, contributory pension scheme, death in service and critical cover and gym membership discounts.
