Our client is the largest recycler of Steel in the UK and through using Electric Arc Steelmaking, Vacuum Induction Melting, Mill processing and their dedicated service centres, they are able to produce and supply a variety of high-value precision-engineered products for Aerospace, Oil and Gas, Industrial Engineering, Bar and Narrow Strip.
 
About the Role:
Our client has an exciting opportunity for you to join their finance team as an experienced Credit Controller who has a proven track record in chasing accounts in a fast moving business environment. You will be comfortable with the credit control process from initial client contact and account set up, through to cash collection and litigation.
You will be responsible for carrying out the cash collections and cash allocations process on behalf the business, and resolving queries raised directly either by customers, commercial teams, finance, or treasury.
 
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers and commercial, technical and finance personnel, banking and credit management teams to promote co-operation and resolution of issues and improve the efficiency of the cash collection
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely allocation of customer payments to the account, investigating and resolving any unallocated payments or disputed items in order to efficiently manage the sales ledger
  • Identify cash flow risk situations using persistence and probing approach to resolve or escalate to the Credit Manager where necessary
  • Attend meetings with commercial account teams to discuss and explain current performance, resolve disputed items and seek improvements
  • Produce written commentaries and analysis of customer payment information for regular reports on collections metrics, including those for external parties
  • Monitor and discuss overdue debts with commercial and credit management, providing input for the recommendations to  suspend orders/deliveries
  • Inform Treasury team of expected and actual cash receipts for cash planning and forecasting purposes
  • Identify and escalate potential systems and process improvements to the Section Leader in order promote continuous improvement and increased efficiency.
  • Evaluate and initiate recovery proceedings for significantly overdue payments, and comply with requirements of credit insurers to monitor these aged debts

 
To be successful within this role you will ideally have:

  • Educated to A-level or equivalent you will have significant experience of collections, accompanied with Accounting experienced.
  • Good working knowledge of both PC-based and mainframe legacy computer systems is required, with a wide number of systems used in addition to INFOR LN, and Navision.
  • You will have strong communication and relationship skills and comfortable dealing with a variety of stakeholders through various media.
  • Business awareness combined with accuracy and working to strict month end deadlines are all essential
  • You must be comfortable decisions and an ability to prioritise own workload.
  • Industry experience is preferred, but not essential
