The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.
Combining the expertise and experience of both the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Education Union is the largest education union in Europe and the fourth largest union in the Trades Union Congress (TUC). We are an effective and powerful voice – championing everyone who works in education.
We are now seeking to recruit an Office Manager on a permanent basis to join our team in new NEU East Midlands Regional Office in Nottingham. This is an exciting opportunity to be a crucial part of the team establishing NEU East Midlands Region.
Prospective applicants are advised that this is a full time role, but we would welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time, job-share or other flexible working arrangements.
The successful candidate will join a small, busy team and will play a key role by managing and co-ordinating the clerical/admin support to senior staff in the region and to the union’s campaigns and priorities for supporting, engaging and involving members. The role has responsibility for the business functions in the region, so a good knowledge and understanding of budget monitoring and reporting, will be necessary, in this role.
To be effective in the job, prospective applicants will also need to have proven ability and experience to successfully manage a team, including coaching and developing direct reports. Key to this role is also someone’s ability to prioritise and manage work to agreed deadlines, recognising sensitive, difficult and challenging situations, and propose appropriate course of action.
We are looking for applicants who can work flexibly as part of a team with good organisational skills, who are able to prioritise, to work under pressure and at times to use their own initiative. The ability to deal with telephone calls in a confident and professional manner is essential.
We offer good conditions including a commencing salary of £34,995 pa (inclusive of £978 luncheon allowance), 33 days annual leave plus 4 days paid additional holiday entitlement as the NEU office closure days at Christmas and a final salary pension scheme.
