This new project will provide mental health support in a warm and welcoming environment. We want people who are reaching a crisis point in the evening to have somewhere to turn. Similar projects in other parts of the country have helped to prevent crises escalating, reduced A&E attendance and avoided hospital admissions. This pilot project provides a service on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday evenings, with the hope of extending the hours if further funding can be secured.
The Oxford Safe Haven will be hosted by Oxfordshire Mind, with support from Elmore Community Services and Oxford Health Foundation Trust.
These types of projects are a much needed resource. They are intended to provide out-of-hours mental health support and aim to deliver the following key outcomes:
* Prevent escalation of mental health problems and thereby avoid a mental health crisis
* Prevent unnecessary referrals to secondary mental health services, A&E departments and other emergency and out-of-hours services
* Improve mental health and wellbeing
* Increase independence and self-management
* Reduce isolation
