Content Commercialisation Editor

Reach Solutions is looking to appoint a Content Commercialisation Editor to join our team in Canary Wharf. We are looking for an experienced and creative writer who can create editorial articles that integrate commerce and content, in order to directly generate revenue. This is no ordinary journalist position, and sits directly within the commercial business side of our business, so experience in a similar role is essential.

We are Reach because it's what we do

Reach plc is the largest national and regional news publisher in the UK, with influential and iconic brands such as mirror, the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, Daily Star, OK! and market leading regional titles and websites including the Manchester Evening News, Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Mail and Bristol Post.

Our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of news and information, with our editorial conviction and high standards of journalism providing audiences with timely information and opinion across multiple platforms.

Last year we sold 540 million newspapers, and we have a bigger online monthly audience than all our competitors including Mail Online and News UK.

Our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, viewed by 110m unique browsers every month.

Key Responsibilities

  • To work within a small and exciting team to create editorial articles that integrate commerce and content, in order to directly generate revenue from a range of partners

  • Use analytics to find out about the products and services that our users care about or are interested in and then write, commission or work with the existing editorial teams to create content.

  • Act as an evangelist for the concept of content commercialisation within the business, providing support to other editorial teams where required and leading by example with the creation of high quality, successful editorial content in a fast-paced environment

  • You should note that while this role requires a lot of research and writing skill, it is not a straight editorial role. This position lives on the business side and works to generate revenue through affiliate marketing and promotions.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Solid writing ability with proven experience in digital journalism (minimum 1 years)
  • Demonstrable in-depth understanding of the principles of headline writing and social media distribution, and a good knowledge of SEO
  • Knowledge of general blogging, community-building, and social media best practices
  • Light knowledge of HTML and CSS styling for formatting posts and fixing tracking codes
  • Understanding of affiliate marketing programs, AdWords traffic buying, eBay sales, or something else ecommerce-oriented
  • Experience of working in a Content Management System
  • Experience of working with social media (managing a Facebook page and working with Tweetdeck/Hootsuite or similar)
  • Good knowledge of popular culture, sport, music and current affairs

Desirable experience

  • Able to produce sparkling copy with a strong conversational tone and attention-grabbing headlines under pressure
  • Demonstrable in-depth understanding of SEO principles
  • Experience writing consumer tech, entertainment, fashion or travel topics that are relevant to affiliates and e-commerce is advantageous
  • A strong interest or experience in e-commerce and its future (think content + commerce!)
  • Can confidently analyse data to inform your day to day output and maximise commercial conversion of content. Familiarity with Google Analytics, Crowdtangle or similar reporting tools is a plus.
  • Experience using CMS platforms, basic photo tools, social media scheduling platforms and basic production tools, with an eye for what looks good and is engaging
