Brook Street Edinburgh is proud to be recruiting on behalf of one of Edinburgh`s most esteemed Chartered Professional Body dedicated to education and development who has an opportunity for a Judicial Clerk to join their team.

The main purpose of the role is to provide clerking support to ensure that Adjudication Panels, Interim Orders Panels, Disciplinary Tribunal Panels and Appeal Tribunal Panels run efficiently, timeously and transparently, in compliance with our clients Disciplinary and Capacity for Membership Schemes. The successful candidate should be able to assist in the provision of general legal and regulatory support to aid the General Counsel Directorate in meeting its regulatory and corporate objectives.

The post holder will be required to exercise judgement to ensure the Disciplinary and Capacity for Membership Schemes operate effectively and efficiently, and that Panels are provided with all necessary tools to deliver clear, consistent, well-reasoned and prompt determinations. The role will require sensitive management of user expectations, and the handling of highly confidential material.



Principal Accountabilities

Providing clerking support on practice and procedural matters to panels convened in accordance with our clients Disciplinary and Capacity for Membership Schemes.

Providing support to the disciplinary pool from which said panels shall be convened, and in particular liaising with the Convenor of Disciplinary Tribunal Panels and the Convenor of Adjudication Panels to support them in achieving their aims and objectives.

Providing clerking support to the Independent Examiner and Chair of the Appeals Tribunal Panel, as required.

Providing secretarial support to the Disciplinary Appointments Committee (DAC) in discharging its responsibilities to appoint, appraise and renew lay and actuary member volunteers to work within the Disciplinary and Capacity for Membership Schemes, and to work with the Chair of the DAC to assist him/ her in achieving his/ her aims and objectives.

Presenting and reporting on the work of the Disciplinary Pool, Panels, Legal Advisers, the Convenor of Disciplinary Tribunal Panels, the Convenor of Adjudication Panels and the DAC to the Disciplinary Board and providing general support as part of the General Counsel Directorate (in particular the Disciplinary Investigation Team) to the Disciplinary Board in discharging its oversight role over the Disciplinary and Capacity for Membership Schemes.

Promoting awareness of the Disciplinary and Capacity for Membership Schemes amongst members, the public and external stakeholders such as the Financial Reporting Council (FRC).

Working closely and effectively with other members of the General Counsel Directorate to provide legal, regulatory and other project management support. This includes legal and regulatory advice to Regulation Board and its committees, on matters of regulatory policy.

Regular travel to sites in London and Oxford and other meeting locations will be required.
