Contract: Fixed term contract until 30 Sept 2019

EDP is a high performing social enterprise, providing substance misuse services within the Dorset Community and in partnership with CareUK a number of prisons across Devon and Dorset.  Our mission is: To open doors for people affected by substance misuse so they can improve their lives and those of their families and communities.

The type of service that our EDP teams carry out is highly valued by service users and prison staff. As part of our team, you can make a difference to people’s health and wellbeing, perspectives on their long term potential and ultimately their lives.  EDP can offer you a real opportunity for new, challenging and highly rewarding experiences. For all roles, in return for your commitment and enthusiasm, we offer a comprehensive training & development programme, a generous leave package, child care vouchers, pension scheme, and a positive, friendly working environment.

As a Support Worker, you will have an important role in working as part of a wider team supporting individuals as part of the Substance Misuse Service delivery. Key responsibilities will include working with clinical teams to monitor and observe individuals during the administration of their medications.  Support Workers also provide individuals with important health and harm reduction information and advice covering a range of areas, as well as basic levels of recovery focused psychosocial support. You will also contribute to the continuity of care through effective liaison with partnership agencies and undertake key administrative tasks including the collection and inputting of data and information systems.

You will already be an effective communicator, comfortable with conveying key information efficiently and effectively both in writing and verbally.   As well as proficient with administration and IT skills, you will be experienced at managing your own time, workload and priorities. You will have at least five GCSE’s (or equivalent) and either hold or be willing to undertake  a Vocational  Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care.

Whilst not essential, previous experience of working within a similar recovery orientated environment and/or as part of multi-disciplinary team in a social or health care environment, would be a distinct advantage.  This could include experience of: administering drug and alcohol tests, working with people with drug and alcohol problems, assessment and individual care planning, involvement in delivering a range of evidence based psychosocial interventions in 1:1 and group-work settings.

More importantly, you will have a genuine interest in the understanding of substance misuse problems and a positive recovery focused attitude. You will be keen to develop professionally through our training programme and will demonstrate a high level of integrity and enthusiasm for working within the structured environment of a prison.

You will be based at HMP Channings Wood. Channings Wood is a Category C training and resettlement prison based near Newton Abbot.
