Specialist Foster Care Role

DBS Check: Enhanced

Reference: CSC/18/78097

Do you want to make a difference to a young person’s life?

Sefton Council is looking to recruit specialist foster carers who can provide intensive one-one care to our most vulnerable young people who would otherwise be placed in residential care.

Many of these young people will have experienced traumatic events. As a specialist foster carer you’ll be somebody who can provide a supportive environment, build and maintain a meaningful relationship with a young person, understand the impact of a young person’s past experiences and how that affects their behaviour.

You will be resilient, you will have a sense of humour, be an excellent listener, and be able to recognise and reward even small successes.

You will also need to demonstrate a commitment to fostering and be willing to commit to caring for young people for a minimum of between 6-24 months.

What support will I receive?

Caring for a young person with complex needs can be challenging. But you’re not on your own. You will receive:

  • Support from an experienced fostering mentor
  • 24-hour emergency duty phone line
  • Individual support from your own supervising social worker
  • Regular group supervision
  • Access to a comprehensive training programme, allowing you to develop your skills
  • Opportunity to work as part of a professional team
  • A generous financial package of £450 per week and an allowance of between £164 - £191 depending on the age of the child or young person you are fostering.
  •

In return you will need to be able to demonstrate that you are:

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Able to provide a good standard of care to other people’s children/young people

Can offer a home environment where there are no other children or young people under the age of 16 years either resident or cared for on a regular basis.

Equal Opportunities

Please note that all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for these jobs (as given in the Person Specification) and who want to apply under the Disability Confident Scheme will be invited to interview.
