Looking to further your Historic Environment Record (HER) career in a varied archaeological landscape?

From the iconic East Coast seaside and the rich prehistoric landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, to medieval Hull, and industrial Goole, the archaeology and heritage of East Riding of Yorkshire is currently transforming understanding of Iron Age Britain. Explore this landscape alongside Hull, a city of ambition, a city that sparked the English Civil War, with rich surviving medieval remains.  It’s time to join our team and become part of the story. We are an ambitious team, transforming the HER into a dynamic resource, including an Urban Archaeological Database and Maritime HER record.

As Senior Historic Environment Record Officer for Humber Archaeology Partnership, a partnership between East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Hull City Council, you will develop the HER alongside the Principal Archaeologist. You will act as a mentor to the HER Officer and HER Assistant and be responsible for the day-to-day running of the HER.  You will oversee the paper based HER transform into a digital record which reflects the significance of our heritage. The post is an East Riding of Yorkshire Council post but will sit in Hull City Council.

Educated to degree level in Archaeology or closely related subject, you should have experience as a HER Officer looking to take the next step with your career.  You should have experience of developing an Historic Environment Record, beyond enhancement projects, promoting archaeology and heritage in innovative ways and developing outreach strategies. You also will be an experienced user of HBSMR (or similar packages) and GIS software (such as MapInfo), and demonstrate undertaking HER audits, production of HER forward plans, strategy documents and developing volunteer strategies.
