EDUCATION WORKFORCE COUNCIL

APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS

A time commitment of up to 12 days per annum on Council business will typically be required.

We are seeking 8 new board members for the Education Workforce Council (EWC). These are important posts and represent an opportunity to become involved with a credible and prestigious professional body which commands respect from those within and outside the education service. The Council will be based in Cardiff and meetings will be held in and around Cardiff.

The appointment will be for 4 years commencing 1 April 2019 with induction training and the first Council meeting taking place on the 11 and 12 April 2019.

The Education Workforce Council

The Education Workforce Council (EWC) was established by the Education (Wales) Act 2014. Under the Act, the General Teaching Council for Wales (GTCW) was reconfigured and renamed to become the Education Workforce Council (EWC). The EWC came into being on 1 April 2015.

The Education Workforce Council (EWC) is the independent regulator in Wales for teachers and support staff in maintained schools and Further Education settings, as well as youth and youth support workers and people involved in work-based learning.

Under the Education (Wales) Act 2014, the principal aims and functions of the Council are to:

  • contribute to improving the standards of teaching and the quality of learning in Wales;
  • maintain and improve standards of professional conduct amongst teachers and others who support teaching and learning in Wales;
  • safeguard the interests of learners, parents and the public and maintain public trust and confidence in the education workforce.

Successful Candidate

You will have a sympathetic understanding of the cultural and linguistic context in which teaching and learning is practised in Wales, together with a keen interest in matters relating to Welsh education.

With good team working and communication skills, your background may lie outside the education sector. You may have, for example, financial, legal or other expertise or experience of work in business, or the voluntary sector.

Remuneration:  This is not a paid appointment but members will be reimbursed for travelling, subsistence and other expenses related to their membership of Council.  Please see the ‘Information for Candidates’ document for information with regards to the payment of supply cover.

Rydym am benodi 8 aelod newydd i fwrdd Cyngor y Gweithlu Addysg. Mae'r rhain yn swyddi pwysig ac yn gyfle i ymwneud â chorff proffesiynol sy'n uchel ei barch o fewn y gwasanaeth addysg, a thu hwnt. Bydd y Cyngor wedi'i leoli yng Nghaerdydd a chynhelir cyfarfodydd yn ac o gwmpas Caerdydd.

Bydd y penodiad am gyfnod o bedair blynedd, gan ddechrau ar 1 Ebrill 2019. Bydd hyfforddiant sefydlu a'r cyfarfod cyntaf ar 11 a 12 Ebrill 2019.

Cyngor y Gweithlu Addysg

Sefydlwyd Cyngor y Gweithlu Addysg gan Ddeddf Addysg (Cymru) 2014. O dan y Ddeddf, aildrefnwyd Cyngor Addysgu Cyffredinol Cymru a'i ailenwi'n Gyngor y Gweithlu Addysg, a ddaeth i rym ar 1 Ebrill 2015.

Cyngor y Gweithlu Addysg yw'r rheoleiddiwr annibynnol ar gyfer athrawon a staff cymorth mewn ysgolion a gynhelir a lleoliadau Addysg Bellach yng Nghymru, yn ogystal â Gweithwyr Cymorth Ieuenctid a phobl sydd ynghlwm wrth ddysgu seiliedig ar waith.

O dan Ddeddf Addysg (Cymru) 2014, prif amcanion a swyddogaethau'r Cyngor yw:

  • cyfrannu at wella safonau addysgu a dysgu yng Nghymru;

  • diogelu buddiannau dysgwyr, rhieni a'r cyhoedd a chynnal ymddiriedaeth a hyder y cyhoedd yn y gweithlu addysg.

Yr Ymgeisydd Llwyddiannus

Bydd gennych ymdeimlad â'r cyd-destun diwylliannol ac ieithyddol sy'n gefndir i addysgu a dysgu yng Nghymru, a dealltwriaeth dda o hynny. Yn ogystal, bydd gennych ddiddordeb brwd mewn materion sy'n ymwneud ag addysg yng Nghymru.

Bydd gennych sgiliau cyfathrebu gwych a gallu i weithio mewn tîm. Gallech fod â chefndir y tu hwnt i'r sector addysg; er enghraifft, efallai y bydd gennych arbenigedd ym maes cyllid, y gyfraith neu ryw faes arall, neu brofiad o fyd busnes neu'r sector gwirfoddol.

Tâl: nid penodiad cyflogedig mo hwn, ond ad-delir costau teithio, cynhaliaeth a threuliau eraill sy'n gysylltiedig  â bod yn aelod o'r Cyngor.  Cyfeiriwch at y ddogfen ‘Gwybodaeth i Ymgeiswyr’  am wybodaeth mewn perthynas â thalu am gyflenwi.

Mae’n bolisi gan Lywodraeth Cymru i hyrwyddo ac integreiddio cyfle cyfartal ym mhob agwedd ar ei busnes, gan gynnwys penodiadau i gyrff cyhoeddus. Croesewir ac anogir ceisiadau gan bob grŵp, a byddwn yn sicrhau na chaiff unrhyw ymgeisydd sy’n gymwys i ymgymryd â swydd gyhoeddus ei drin yn llai ffafriol oherwydd oedran, anabledd, rhyw, statws priodasol, cyfeiriadedd rhywiol, ailbennu rhywedd, hil, crefydd neu gred, neu feichiogrwydd a mamolaeth.
