Natural Resources Wales

Head of Commercial

Salary will be subject to negotiation

The role can be located flexibly, with regular travel throughout Wales essential

The natural environment of Wales is exceptional and inspiring. It is the foundation for our health, well-being and prosperity. It provides the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. It provides energy and raw materials. It is essential to our way of life – providing jobs, leisure and relaxation, and attractive places for us to live, work and enjoy. It is part of our culture, our history and our future. There are huge opportunities to improve everyone’s lives – but this can only happen if the natural environment is managed sustainably and recognised for the benefits it provides.

We are the largest Welsh Government Sponsored Body, with 1,900 talented and dedicated staff working across Wales. We advise the Welsh Government, industry, and the wider public and voluntary sectors on issues relating to the environment and its natural resources. Our work is varied, and it is important – we respond to 9,000 environmental incidents a year, manage 7 per cent of Wales’ land area, and protect people and the environment via our regulatory work covering the marine, forest and waste industries.

We are seeking a solutions-focused leader with a track record working across a diverse range of commercial models.  You will be a creative thinker with a history of delivering innovation within the commercial discipline.  Taking people with you on this journey will be critical and your leadership skills set you apart.  There is an ambition to move forward in the commercial discipline, however it is critical that we do so with the support of our partners and stakeholders, therefore an appreciation of the environment in which we operate will be crucial to delivering success.

With the creation of this role we have an opportunity to look at things differently, to identify new ways of working and delivery models, and to explore creative ways to develop and expand as a commercial operation. This senior leadership position will take the lead in identifying commercial growth opportunities while recognising the environment in which we operate and the sensitives and complexities it entails.
