An excellent opportunity for a Lab Technician to work for our innovative client based in Worcestershire. An excellent salary and benefits package is on offer for a candidate looking to be part of a dynamic and forward thinking team.
Background
The successful candidate will work as part of a team carrying out testing of a wide range of raw materials, intermediate production materials and final production products. Some of these materials are explosive in nature.
Chemical, physical, mechanical and hazard properties are determined using a mixture of advanced analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, IR, AAS as well as traditional ones such as gravimetric and volumetric analysis. Other techniques are specific to our industry. Training in the different techniques is available where required.
Results often require analysis and final reporting. The latter involves liaison with internal and external customers.
Test methods, equipment and facilities must be maintained and safety assessments updated, e.g. COSHH assessment.
Requirements
Prospective candidates should have a degree or equivalent qualification in chemistry or material science. They should also have experience of working in a laboratory environment.

- Knowledge and practical experience of standard laboratory test methods
- Knowledge and practical experience of handling hazardous chemicals including COSHH and risk assessments
- Understanding of technical specifications and standards
- Ability to work unsupervised and to a high level of accuracy
- Good interpersonal and communication skills including report writing
- Proactive and flexible
- Good team working skills
- Ability to plan and organise his/her own work
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Access
Desirable but not essential attributes include the following:
- Understanding and experience of analytical techniques including:
- AAS
- HPLC
- GC
- UV
- IR
- DSC
- Gravimetric and volumetric analysis
- Understanding of rheology testing
- Previous laboratory experience
- Full driving license
