The Sherman Theatre in Cardiff, one of the UK’s leading producing houses and current Regional Theatre of the Year (The Stage Awards 2018), is seeking to appoint a dynamic and visionary Artistic Director to build on Rachel O’Riordan’s hugely successful legacy and ensure that the theatre continues to grow in profile and reputation as one of Wales and the UK’s most important arts organisations.

This is a moment of real opportunity for Sherman Theatre and for its next Artistic Director. Over the past 5 years the company has gone from strength to strength, increasing audiences, developing artists, building strong relationships with our communities and making and presenting work of excellence for our audiences in Wales, as well as in London and around the UK.  In addition to the Stage’s Regional Theatre of the Year Award, the Sherman has also won national acclaim this year for its innovative and excellent work, receiving the coveted Oliver Award for Outstanding Achievement in Theatre for Killology, in a co-production with Royal Court Theatre. Previous recognition has come with the New Play Award (UK Theatre Awards 2015) for Gary Owen’s Iphigenia in Splott. 

As the Sherman enters a new phase in its history, the Board of Trustees is seeking an exceptional Artistic Director who will bring a coherent, ambitious and compelling vision for the theatre, combining artistic flair with shrewd financial judgement.  Our ideal candidate will be an experienced artistic leader with a reputation for creating industry-respected, excellent and innovative work and the proven ability to collaborate with a diverse range of practitioners and inspire excellence across all aspects of the company. He or she will have a genuine commitment to developing audiences, nurturing and developing artists, innovation in theatre practice, and forming creative and strategic partnerships with other arts organisations.

Mae Theatr y Sherman, Caerdydd, sef un o dai cynhyrchu blaenllaw gwledydd Prydain a Theatr Ranbarthol y Flwyddyn ar hyn o bryd (Gwobrau The Stage 2018), yn gobeithio penodi Cyfarwyddwr Artistig dynamig sydd â gweledigaeth er mwyn adeiladu ar waddol hynod lwyddiannus Rachel O'Riordan a sicrhau bod y theatr yn parhau i dyfu o ran proffil ac enw da fel un o sefydliadau celfyddydol pwysicaf Cymru a gwledydd Prydain.

Rydym mewn cyfnod o gyfle gwirioneddol ar gyfer Theatr y Sherman a'i Chyfarwyddwr Artistig nesaf. Yn ystod y pum mlynedd diwethaf, mae'r cwmni wedi mynd o nerth i nerth, gan gynyddu maint cynulleidfaoedd, datblygu artistiaid, meithrin perthnasau cryfion gyda'n cymunedau a gwneud a chyflwyno gwaith rhagorol ar gyfer ein cynulleidfaoedd yng Nghymru, yn Llundain ac o gwmpas gwledydd Prydain. Yn ogystal â Gwobr Theatr Ranbarthol y Flwyddyn The Stage, mae'r Sherman hefyd wedi cael canmoliaeth eleni am ei gwaith arloesol ardderchog, gan ennill Gwobr Olivier am Gyflawniad Eithriadol yn y Theatr gyda Killology, mewn cyd-gynhyrchiad gyda Theatr y Llys Brenhinol. Mae gwaith y cwmni wedi'i gydnabod yn y gorffennol hefyd pan enillodd drama Gary Owen Iphigenia in Splott Wobr Drama Newydd yng Ngwobrau Theatr Prydain 2015.

Wrth i'r Sherman gychwyn ar gyfnod newydd yn ei hanes, mae Bwrdd yr Ymddiriedolwyr yn gobeithio penodi Cyfarwyddwr Artistig eithriadol a fydd yn cynnig gweledigaeth ar gyfer y theatr fydd yn eglur, yn uchelgeisiol ac yn darbwyllo, gan gyfuno greddf artistig a chrebwyll ariannol cadarn. Bydd yr ymgeisydd delfrydol yn arweinydd artistig profiadol gydag enw da am greu gwaith arloesol, ardderchog sy'n cael ei barchu gan y diwydiant, a gallu wedi'i brofi i gydweithio gydag amrywiaeth eang o ymarferwyr ac ysbrydoli rhagoriaeth yn holl waith y cwmni. Bydd ganddynt ymrwymiad go iawn i'r gwaith o ddatblygu cynulleidfaoedd, meithrin a datblygu artistiaid, arloesi mewn ymarfer theatr, a chreu partneriaethau creadigol a strategol gyda sefydliadau celfyddydol eraill.
