Wales Policy and External Affairs Officer

Do you have the confidence and drive to further your career in policy and external relations? The General Medical Council in Wales is looking for an outstanding and proactive Policy and External Affairs professional to support our work at the heart of healthcare in Wales.

We are the UK’s independent medical regulator, working to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine by doctors.

The Policy and External Affairs Officer role is an additional post created due to growth within our Wales team, to support our external affairs and policy work.  The Policy and External Affairs Officer will work closely with the Policy and External Affairs Manager and colleagues across the Strategic Communications and Engagement Directorate to deliver our ongoing work in this area.

The post-holder will ensure that our work is promoted and understood by our key stakeholder groups. You will ensure that we engage in a positive, balanced and well-informed manner; draft GMC consultation responses, policy papers and briefings and have a key role in making sure that other GMC colleagues are aware of political, policy and legislative developments in Wales that have the potential to impact on our work. The ability to speak Welsh is highly desirable.

Expertise and insight in policy and external affairs is essential, along with any experience working with the Welsh Government / National Assembly for Wales or a healthcare organisation. This is your opportunity to make a difference to patients and doctors across Wales and the UK within a high-profile UK organisation.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.

The closing date for applications is midnight on 14 November and first stage interviews will be held on 27 November.
