The Company

Macfarlane Design & Manufacture are seeking to appoint an experienced Production Manager with a proven track record of implementing change and driving production efficiencies who shall assume responsibility for the manufacturing team based in Westbury. Our specialist manufacturing division designs and manufactures bespoke protective packaging solutions. Our customers are UK wide and span a number of key verticals including: Aerospace, Defence, Electronics, Industrial and Medical.

The Production Manager Role

With extensive manufacturing experience and of degree calibre reporting to our General Manager, you will be leading the production team and responsible for the daily running of our on-site manufacturing operation, driving change through the creation and implementation of processes, procedures and modern manufacturing techniques. A proven track record in continuous improvement and lean thinking is essential. You will be expected to ensure that all products are manufactured according to customer specification in an efficient and cost effective manner, ensuring KPI targets are achieved and exceeded. You will also need to ensure that all costs are managed in line with budget.

Production Manager Key Duties

-Manage, motivate and support production personnel. Train, mentor and coach supervisors and team leaders
-Drive significant production efficiency improvements in an ever evolving semi-automated and bespoke (manual) production environment
-Ensure all Health & Safety/Housekeeping policies and practises are adhered to on site
-Ensure quality standards are improved and Root cause analysis is used to detect defects thus ensuring any issues are resolved with corrective actions
-Through the use of lean manufacturing techniques reduce set up time and increase output to improve profitability and reduce lead times
-Work within the company's IS09001 and IS014001 policies
-Chair daily production meetings and liaise with key departments
-Support planned preventative maintenance programme for all machinery
-Implement training programmes for all Direct Labour personnel
-Create, implement and improve SOPs, KPIS and all other manufacturing measures

Do you have the correct profile?

In order to apply you must have extensive manufacturing experience with at least 5 years at Production Manager Level and be accustomed to managing a production operation of 45+ staff. A sound understanding of production techniques and applications (Lean, 5s, SMED, TQM etc.) is imperative. Prior experience of having managed teams within a bespoke manufacturing environment is crucial (whereby a range of skills, processes and materials are used). You will have excellent communication skills with the drive and energy to motivate your team and deliver results with a bias to mentoring and coaching abilities.
