Business Safety Inspector - GBP22,401 to GBP29,909 - Grimsby/Scunthorpe

The Role

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are looking to appoint two new Business Safety Inspectors with one based in Grimsby and one at Scunthorpe. This is a fantastic opportunity for anybody with a background in Fire Safety and public services to develop their career as a Business Safety Inspector.

A Business Safety Inspector will need to undertake risk-based fire safety inspections of all premises types and to provide advice and guidance on general fire prevention. They will also manage consultations and enquiries relating to Business Safety to reduce risk in the community and liaise with other members of Community Protection and Operational Response to exchange relevant risk intelligence in support of safer Firefighters.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Consult with Building Control Bodies, local authorities and other regulatory agencies on fire safety matters, hazards and associated risks for the planned construction, demolition and alteration of buildings.
Undertake and provide support as necessary in the investigation of offences through the preparation of case files, interviewing and cautioning of witnesses, taking and preparing statements, collection of evidence.
Provide advice on fire risk assessments and evaluate fire safety design submissions to achieve compliance with relevant fire safety legislation.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Business Safety Inspector:

Experience of determining solutions to hazards and risks identified through inspection and investigation; Experience of writing detailed reports; Experience of undertaking detailed risk assessment work.
Working knowledge of Fire Safety legislation, and knowledge of the principles of Fire Risk Assessment and its application in premises.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including producing detailed reports and preparing and presenting information to influence change.
Organisational skills with the ability to work unsupervised and meet tight deadlines.
Numerate and literate to GCSE standard or equivalent, with the willingness to undertake both internal and external fire safety training.
