1. Accountabilities:

• Promoting a positive attitude and encourage positive behaviour which welcomes children of varying backgrounds and cultural experiences

• To ensure the effective operating of the key carer system you are responsible for within the room. To communicate daily with parents with regards to their child's progress in order to ensure their confidence and trust in the Nursery

• Contribute to your training and development plan in your progress review.

• Ensure that students are adhering to the policies and procedures at all times. Ensuring every opportunity is given for the development of that student, and that each individual is presented with a good impression of the Nursery

• To be responsible for planning and organisation of activities on an individual and group basis by participating in regular staff meetings and curriculum planning. Making reference to the Day Nursery Curriculum Policies and Procedures and in particular the Birth to Three Matters Framework and the Foundation Stage Curriculum Guidance.

• Maintain observations of children's play, behaviour and developmental progress, to inform future planning and to support children to reach their full developmental potential.

• Assist with the devising and maintenance of suitable routines in line with the National Daycare Standards, whilst considering the needs of children as individuals and as part of a group.

• To support room leader and management team in ensuring that all Day Nursery practices, policies, procedures and curriculum planning are implemented to deliver anti-discriminatory practice, making close reference to the Day Nursery Equal Opportunity Policy and Procedure and SEN Policy and Procedure.

• To plan and deliver a standard of care and education which meets legislative requirements and allows children to develop to their full potential.

• Develop & maintain effective communication with colleagues, children, Parents/Carers, Day Nursery managers & other individuals to ensure professional standards are maintained.

• To demonstrate a flexible approach and adaptability and be willing to work in any area of the Day Nursery as requested to ensure that the service needs are met.
Adhere to and implement, with support, all policies and procedures of the setting - Day Nursery Operational Policy and Procedure, Day Nursery Staff Operational Policy and Procedure and curriculum policy and procedures.

• To ensure that parents are aware of their child's general behaviour and initially discuss any underlying problems, referring persistent or serious problems to the Room leader / Nursery Manager. To provide a written assessment of a child's progress on a regular basis

• Ensure the Nursery represents the company brand in a professional, caring and customer focussed manner at all times

• To follow health and safety guidelines, checking all equipment, reporting any concerns to the management team and to contribute suggestions for future improvement

• To be responsible for reporting / recording of accidents and incidents within the Nursery

1. Qualifications, Training & Experience

• The jobholder must be up to date on childcare developments and have a good working knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and Local Authority regulations for day care provision.

• The jobholder will be required to pass a police check with the registering Local Authority.

• NVQ Level 3

1. Judgement Skills

• The jobholder is responsible for the general care and safety of all children, but within the room/unit and in the Nursery as a whole, ensuring that the needs of the children are met and are age appropriate.
• The jobholder is expected to take responsibility in ensuring that developmental charts / records are kept up to date.

1. Freedom of action

• The jobholder is expected to positively challenge staff behaviour and practices, always striving to provide highest quality care
• The jobholder must be able to use own initiative and work as part of a team with appropriate supervision from the nursery management team.

1. Dimensions

A room will have between 9 and 12 children in each session and 3 or 4 staff.

2. Environment

• The Nursery core opening hours are Monday to Friday 7.30am to 6.30pm. However, an out of hour's service between 7.00am to 7.30am and 6.30pm to 7pm also operates and staff are expected to cover these hours on a rota basis.

• A shift pattern will operate through out the nursery, which is organized at a local level by the Nursery Manager to ensure that, the correct children: staff (as set out by OFSTED) ratios are maintained at all times.

• The job is predominately based within a particular room and age group of children within the Nursery
