About a Software Development Industry Placements

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to spend your industry placement in software development with us. You'll join a team in our national delivery centre where you will contribute to solutions that really help our users and create significant value and opportunities for clinicians and patients across the whole of England.

Software lies at the heart of our daily lives. Many of our interactions are now through applications and services. The quality, take-up and efficiency of these interactions is massively influenced by well-designed software. This is an opportunity to join NHS Digital and help write software to be transformative for services across health and care, be they national systems or those targeted at specific areas and users. You will join teams from across the organisation, learning from highly motivated subject matter experts and contribute to our successful deliveries.

How we work:

  • Multi-functional end-to-end development teams comprising of business analysts, developers and testers: you would join one of these teams

You won't be on your own! You'll be working with other trainees, both new to the role like yourself, and those who have been on previous training schemes. Along with the wider team, a career manager and community of practice your support network couldn't be better for getting your career off to a great start.

Placement Students will start with NHS Digital on 9th September 2019.

About you

Candidates will need to be undertaking a degree in Computer Sciences, STEM or a course where software development forms a key part and have:

  • Passion, drive and high levels of enthusiasm for new challenges
  • Self-motivation and a desire to succeed as part of a team
  • A commitment to excel in a demanding and highly rewarding role

Technical Skills / Experience

  • Application development, ideally using Java, .NET or PHP
  • SQL / relational databases
  • Web-development (HTML, Javascript, CSS)
  • Test automation development
  • Development tools (source control tools, build tools, etc)

What happens next

Following successful application, you will be invited to complete online ability tests and video interviews.

Assessment Centres will then take place in December 2018 and February 2019.
