In House Compliance Manager

They have recently launched a bold and ambitious new business strategy to thrive within the challenging and continually changing retail industry. As part of the new strategy the business is undergoing an exciting and strategic transformation across all areas of the company, implementing plans to become an organisation that is led by innovative and market leading products, all underpinned by a strong recognisable brand.
The Opportunity
This position is newly created and will work directly with the business' in-house legal team.
The position offers the holder the opportunity to make their mark with the senior leadership team by reviewing how the business currently manages legal regulatory risk.
You'll be required to work independently but will also work with established compliance teams such as H&S and Data and Audit. You'll design and implement a new way of ensuring appropriate risk assessment, training, monitoring and compliance is in place for key legislation affecting the company.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead, oversee and advise on the development of a legal compliance risk management strategy and framework to provide assurance through a risk-based programme of compliance monitoring.
* Report how legal compliance risk is being managed and controlled and issues of non-compliance.
* Ensure the provision of legal horizon scanning and training for emerging legislative legal compliance risks.
* Develop and maintain policy and procedures, highlighting important considerations to ensure operational practice is consistent with legislation.
* Foster and develop strong relationships with key external regulators.
* Investigate all incidents of legal noncompliance and Identify unacceptable control gaps and support business units to develop control improvement plans.
* Identify proactively continuous improvement initiatives for the legal compliance function to enhance the delivery of legal services and lead the implementation of improvements.
The Candidate
You may be an experienced compliance or risk manager well versed in implementing and managing compliance systems and have an interest in setting up something new. Alternatively, you may be a solicitor from a regulatory or litigation background who is looking for a broader role with more variety. Alternatively, you may be a professional support lawyer looking to make a move in-house. We welcome interest from candidates from different career paths but you must have a passion for bringing compliance to life.
* Minimum 8 years proven experience in legal compliance or risk management.
* Ability to focus on risk-based outcomes and deliver within agreed timescales.
* Ability to form effective relationships to influence key stakeholders across the company.
* Ability to make timely risk-based decisions on a consistent basis under pressure
