The Council has a vacancy for a part-time Deputy Hostel Manager at our Homeless Persons Hostel for homeless families at Norway House, North Weald. You would be part of a team of staff who monitor the well-being of residents ensuring they comply with the conditions of their licences. The work also includes reporting repairs, collecting residents’ license charges and checking the safety of people placed by the Council in other temporary accommodation.

This is an exciting opportunity as you will be involved in continuously improving the service through our working practices to ensure we are fully prepared for the increasing challenges that lie ahead in respect of our homelessness function.

You will need to be a good communicator, and have the required attributes in order to provide housing-related support to vulnerable people and families some of whom have complex needs.

You will work an 18 hour week ensuring the service at both the Hostel is covered and occasionally visit other temporary accommodation sites.

You will also be on call (on a rota basis with 3 other staff) to deal with occasional emergency situations out of hours. An additional payment will be made for being on call with a further overtime payment being made for any work undertaken outside of normal working hours in accordance with the Council’s Collective Agreement.

This post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and a Disclosure and Baring check will be made of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate must live within a 25 mile radius of the Hostel, own a vehicle and hold a full valid driver’s licence. An essential car user allowance is payable which includes a monthly lump sum payment and a further payment for any car mileage undertaken on the Council’s behalf.

Closing date: 1 November 2018.
