Tank Crewman
Royal Armoured Corps
Full-time
THIS IS BELONGING
Everyone wants to belong to something. A football team, a family, a close-knit group of friends. The sense of belonging you find in the Army is next level. When you’ve trained together, side by side, learned things no classroom can teach you. When you’ve lived together and worked together, it creates a bond like no other. A bond that lasts a lifetime, and sees you through whatever life throws at you.3
As a full-time Tank Crewman you’ll learn to drive the 62-tonne Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank and operate its weapon systems. You’ll become part of a close-knit crew as well as well as a wider regimental family, one built on the bonds of tradition, friendship and mutual support. As your career progresses you’ll have the opportunity to be trained on other vehicles – like trucks, specialist engineering platforms and the new Ajax fighting vehicle.
WORLD-CLASS TRAINING
You’ll start out with fourteen weeks of basic training, where you’ll learn essential skills like weapon handling and outdoor survival. You’ll also develop your fitness, mental toughness and leadership ability. Then comes Phase 2 training, where you learn to drive different kinds of vehicles, from cars to tanks. You’ll also learn how to fire and maintain the Challenger 2 tank’s hi-tech weapons. The qualifications you get will set you up for whatever career journey you choose, whether you stay in the Army or eventually return to civilian life.
GAIN QUALIFICATIONS
The Army will pay for you to gain valuable qualifications. These could include:
- HGV driving licences
- Level 2 NVQ in Engineering and Maintenance
- Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (FMA)
SHOW PEOPLE WHAT YOU’RE CAPABLE OF
We'll be with you every step of the way as you move up the ranks. From the moment you begin your training you'll get all the support and encouragement you need to make a success of your career. Work hard and you'll soon get promoted, which means more responsibility and extra pay. And you'll have plenty of opportunities to get qualifications that are recognised by civilian employers.

You should be:
