THIS IS BELONGING

Everyone wants to belong to something. A football team, a family, a close-knit group of friends. The sense of belonging you find in the Army is next level. When you’ve trained together, side by side, learned things no classroom can teach you. When you’ve lived together and worked together, it creates a bond like no other. A bond that lasts a lifetime, and sees you through whatever life throws at you.

When you become a British Army infantry soldier you’ll join a famous regiment rich in history and tradition, and learn from experienced soldiers who will do everything they can to help you develop and succeed. There are any many routes to becoming an infantry soldier, two of the exciting opportunities we offer are: joining as a British Army Guardsman – known for their distinctive uniforms and proud ceremonial duties – or join one of our other regiments, such as the Royal Regiment of Scotland, better known to most as the SCOTS.

Whatever route you choose, you’ll be trained to become a professional combat soldier, and be part of one of the best fighting forces in the world. You’ll get to learn, make great friends and travel the world. And, whatever your chosen regiment, the bonds you build there – and the family you make –will follow you throughout your career, and stay with you when you return to civilian life.

LEARN NEW SKILLS

You’ll start by training to be a rifleman – a field soldier skilled in modern combat. When you finish training, you’ll choose your specialty, whether that’s as a medic, sniper, anti-tank missile operator or any of the other options open to you. Later, you’ll get more responsibility and learn new skills, including how to manage larger teams and use your equipment in high-pressure situations. You’ll become confident and fit, and pick up life skills that will help you in the future.

WORLD-CLASS TRAINING

Whichever regiment you join, you’ll take the Combat Infantry Soldier’s Course at the Infantry Training Centre at Catterick in Yorkshire, where you’ll learn the skills of being a modern soldier. Some regiments, like the SCOTS, complete the course over 26 weeks. Other regiments, like the Guards, do a 30 week course. Whichever route you take, you’ll leave Catterick with all of the foundation skills you need to progress your career as an infantry soldier.  If you join as a 16 or 17 year old, you’ll do basic training at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate before completing a 10 or 12-week specialist training course at Catterick.

After your training you’ll join your chosen regiment – and start your career as a British Army Infantry soldier.
