Communications and Marketing Manager
We are recruiting for a Communications and Marketing Manager based at our Colchester office to increase the impact of Lepra through communications and marketing, building trust with our audiences to develop support and generate income. To set professional standards and consistency in our branding and messaging ensuring that communications reflect the charity's values.
Main responsibilities
The primary function of communications and marketing is to:
* Support the fundraising team to achieve all income and expenditure budgets in line with the annual plan objectives and budget
* Ensure that Lepra achieves a high positive public profile and high name recognition

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Desirable
Institute of Fundraising Diploma in Fundraising
Experience
Demonstrable record of achievement within a communications or marketing environment
Experience of planning and delivering campaigns across a variety of marketing channels, including direct mail, websites, online campaigns (SEO, PPC), emails, social media
Knowledge and experience of web systems and content management
Experience of print production and electronic material design processes and techniques and working with suppliers
Experience of copywriting, developing web content and editing
Strong problem-solving ability and confidence to bring in new ideas and drive them forward
Proven experience of effective people management
Experience of budget development and management
Skills
Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills with cross cultural sensitivity
Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
Performance management experience to ensure goals are consistently met in an effective and efficient manner
Confident at presenting or public speaking to a variety of audiences about complex issues or new information in an accessible format
Strong organisational skills and keen attention to detail
Good IT skills, relevant computer packages including Microsoft applications and CRM databases

Key Objectives
Your key objectives will be: -
Ensure that Lepra raises the annual targets for unrestricted-income
Support fundraising and the wider Lepra organisation to ensure that branding and messaging are consistent
Assist the fundraising team to maximise social capital of all our contacts
Ensure a significantly increased positive profile though all communication and profile raising channels
Create communications techniques/toolkits to reach an audience of 1 -2 million each month with key messages which will drive donations and support.
Increase online engagement including the number of pages viewed, time on site, social media engagement, email clicks.
Increase online donations
Support fundraising campaigns and activities - providing collateral and support to achieve ROI targets
Create internal communications structure to improve info sharing - training staff in India and Bangladesh to ensure mutual sharing and improve quality of external communications
The Ambassador and patron relationship is refreshed and two new Ambassadors recruited
To manage the website and on-line communications with technical support from the Journals Manager, ensuring our online presence is managed and measured to grow user interaction and donations
To be responsible for communications functions, on and offline, advising on content and copy and ensuring compliance and legality (DMA, ASA etc.)
To develop, budget and deliver marketing campaigns and integrated communications to achieve supporter acquisition, donor development and retention goals
Key tasks
Be a spokes-person when called on
To gain knowledge of and keep up-to-date with Lepra's work overseas and in the International
Development arena to support good communications across all mediums
To work collaboratively with the Head of Fundraising and Communication for donor insight data to support communication across all channels
To oversee online communication and lead on development of digital initiatives
To negotiate contracts, forming and managing effective working relationships with suppliers
To provide evaluation and reports for individual campaigns and department activities, presenting findings and informing future activity evaluating progress and value for money
To ensure Lepra's communication policies and practices are up to date and fit for purpose, understanding critical communications issues and recommending responses as necessary
To identify and report on trends in communications and marketing in the sector and wider, making appropriate recommendations for Lepra's activity
To manage annual expenditure and income budgets for the communication and marketing function.
Contribute to the fundraising team annual plans and objectives
Implement agreed personnel policy and practice fairly and consistently, directing staff toward the achievement of departmental and organisational objectives
To oversee the production and despatch of the medical journal Leprosy Review
To undertake such other activities that are necessary to achieve the overall purpose of the post
This role requires the successful applicant to apply for an enhanced DBS check with barring for children and vulnerable adults. Appointment and ongoing employment will be subject to a clear check being received. All new starters will be required to take responsibility for joining the DBS update service, at the point of DBS application, and bear the cost of annual subscription whilst employed by Lepra.
