Upholstery Sewing Machinist
You will be responsible for:
* Joining, reinforcing and decorating items
* Operating and tending to industrial machines
You will need to have:
* A good working knowledge of sewing machinery and the products they manufacture
* Sound hand-eye coordination
* Ability to cope with moderate physical effort
Your day-to-day tasks will typically include:
* Referring to orders for sewing covers etc. and selecting appropriate materials
* Starting and checking sewing machinery at the beginning of your shift and testing it for proper functionality
* Addressing any discrepancies or problems faced during the testing period by raising the issue(s) with your line manager
* Sewing missing stitches or replacement parts in accordance to repair instructions provided
* Observing operations to detect any faults or defects in stitching
* Notifying supervisors of any problems or discrepancies during the sewing process
* Attaching buttons, grips, hooks and fasteners to finished items as required
* Attaching elastic or tape to items as specified in the work order
* Ensuring that excess material or threads are cut away from the finished product
* Trimming finished items using scissors and cutters
* Performing general and preventative maintenance tasks on sewing machines to ensure their longevity
* Examining finished items for compliance and ensure that appropriate tags are sewed on them
* Understanding Health & Safety requirements - reporting any issues / dangers / concerns to management
* Keeping work area clean and tidy
