Salary: GBP28,221 to GBP30,756 (rising to GBP31,401 after 5 years continuous service) plus GBP857 Inner Fringe Allowance + essential car user allowance.
We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced person to help the Council meet its statutory duties with regards to environmental protection. The post holder will deal with private water supplies, contaminated land, water quality, private sector drainage and pollution control. The work involves carrying out site visits, inspections, sampling, risk assessments and the investigation and resolution of a range of complaints.
You should have a degree in Environmental Science, or similar subject, (preferably with a pollution based module) and experience in contaminated land, private water supplies and drainage. The work will involve the interpretation of scientific data, service of statutory notices and giving evidence in court.
You must be able to carry out a range of site inspections in urban and rural locations; carry equipment and undertake sampling in the field; be willing to work outside in unpleasant conditions in all types of weather and be able to work on your own or as part of a team.
It is essential that you can effectively communicate with members of the public and manage confrontational situations. The job requires that you hold a current full driving licence and have access to a car for use at all times during working hours.
