We are looking for an experienced IT Technician to join the Information and Computing Services Group (ICS) based at the Department's main site in Trumpington Street. You will be part of a team delivering IT services for teaching and research in the Mechanics, Materials and Design Division. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual seeking a position where they will be exposed to a wide range of technologies in a busy and dynamic environment, who enjoys interacting with customers and progressing their technical skills. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a high level of experience in a number of areas and have a willingness to develop expertise across the full range of skills required. Training will be provided to meet the requirements of the post.
The ICS group is made up of more than 30 staff with expertise in networking, windows and linux systems, messaging, storage, printing and software development. In addition to the central Support and Infrastructure teams ICS has dedicated IT staff embedded in academic divisions across the Department. As a Principal IT Support Technician embedded in the Mechanics, Materials and Design Division you will be working closely with academics and IT colleagues to deliver IT solutions, support infrastructure and applications, and improve IT services. An ideal candidate would have demonstrable skills and experience with:
- Providing IT services in an academic environment
- Delivering front line, customer facing IT support
- Troubleshooting PC and Server hardware and software issues
- Microsoft Windows (7, 10) and Office products
- Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, Fedora, Raspberry PI)
- Networking (DNS, DHCP, CISCO)
Experience with Microsoft Server, database administration, Web Development and scripting would be highly advantageous.
