The Client is a marking leading organisation within there field.
Description
- To act as the first point of contact for general HR advice and guidance including advice to staff and line managers on terms and conditions, standard HR policies and procedures and promoting best practice such as maternity, paternity and adoption entitlements and arrangements including managing return to work arrangements and annual leave accrual.
- To ensure all processes associated with the administration of employee life-cycle transactions are carried out and notify payroll accordingly, effectively liaising with relevant Department, Faculty and Professional Service administrative staff and teams as required.
- With oversight from the HRBPs, to manage a portfolio of casework including disciplinary, grievance, capability, probation, restructuring and reorganisations and ill health issues. To provide an initial triage service for case work and escalating more complex issues to the appropriate HRBP and then provide support.
- To support line managers on appropriate action in medical and welfare cases. Advising on the College's Occupational Health provider and referrals and attending follow up meetings. To liaise with departments to ensure monthly sickness returns and medical certificates are returned in good time and to record absence information on the staff HR/Payroll system.
- To proactively monitor termination dates of all fixed term contracts, including Visiting Teachers, to ensure actions are taken to comply with employment legislation and College policies including attending consultation meetings as appropriate.
- Ensuring compliance with immigration requirements including preparing applications for certificates of sponsorship, proactively monitoring visa expiry dates, and carrying out regular internal audits to ensure employees proof of right to work in the UK.
- To proactively monitor probation dates and to follow up as necessary with the relevant line manager. To ensure probation records and dates on the HR System are kept up to date.
- To liaise with HoDs on the annual Performance Appraisal Review process to monitor completion rates. To provide timely reports to the HRBPs on department completion rates so that they can explore areas of concern with the Head of Department and Faculty Deans/Registrar.
- To assist departments with recruitment interviews and assessment days. In the absence of the Recruitment Officer, assist departments with the placing of recruitment advertisements.
- To assist with providing training on HR related topics, such as the HR bite-size sessions.
- To assist academic departments with establishing sabbatical leave entitlements and to ensure sabbatical leave is record on the HR/Payroll system.
- To ensure and standard operating procedures for HR Officers/Assistants tasks remain up to date so that there is a consistency of approach.
- To cover the HR Hot Desk on the main campus when required.
- To give appropriate attention to continuous professional development, attending seminars, conferences and other relevant learning events as appropriate.
- Any other duties as required by the line manager or Head of Department that are commensurate with the grade .
Profile
HR Officer - Egham - GBP20/GBP24 per hour
- Demonstrate a proven record as a successful HR generalist in a complex organisation, delivering HR advice and support to managers and delivering high volume HR transactional processes
- Knowledge of managing or supervising teams
- Knowledge of working with trade union representatives
- Knowledge of dealing with sensitive and confidential information
- Knowledge of continuously improving processes
- Previous exposure of working with HR/Payroll systems
- Knowledge of working in the Higher Education sector
- Knowledge of facilitating group or individual training sessions
- Past use of HERA
