Volunteer Team Leader, Harrow Adoption Centre 
Part time - 20 hours per week including weekends 
Salary £11,488.72 pa, plus excellent benefits including £906.00pa London Weighting

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. We now help around 190,000 cats and kittens through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 adoption centres and homing centres. 

We are now recruiting a part time Volunteer Team Leader to join our new adoption centre in Harrow, which is due to open in the summer of 2019. The role will initially be based in Archway, North London until the new centre in Harrow opens and will consist of working 2 days one week and 3 days the next week in rotation, including evenings and weekends. 

The main purpose of this role is to promote and co-ordinate volunteering for the Harrow Centre. The post holder will recruit, train, schedule and support a team of diverse volunteers to enhance the smooth running of the Adoption Centre service in all aspects of its work. 

Key Responsibilities: 

- Plan and resource volunteer recruitment campaigns, respond to enquiries, interview and assess applicants, and obtain references where necessary 
- Organise and deliver induction sessions for volunteers with the support of the Centre team, including health and safety and role specific induction programmes 
- Produce and manage volunteer rotas. Update the Volunteer Information System and maintain records such as volunteer attendance, absence and holiday’s, taking action to resolve issues with support of the Centre Manager where necessary 
- Lead and motivate volunteers, and encourage and support them in their roles. Providing daily guidance as well as holding regular reviews to ensure volunteer motivations, training and support needs are recognised and met and any problems are addressed 
- Monitor overall standards and performance of volunteers and conduct exit interviews to gain feedback. Produce reports and statistics for the Centre Manager, keeping them updated with volunteer availability and related issues 
- Work with the Centre Manager in supporting the on-going development of volunteers’ knowledge and skills by organising training to enable them to become most effective. Ensure that volunteers are aware of and conform to Cats Protections policies and procedures 
- Support the Centre management team in identifying and assessing health and safety risks, undertaking risk assessments on volunteer activities, and on young and vulnerable volunteers 
- Support the Centre management team in proactively communicating operational changes to volunteers ensuring our cats receive the very best care 
- Compile and distribute a monthly newsletter to inform volunteers of current Centre activities and achievements 
- Show empathy and understanding when dealing with others, particularly concerning emotive or contentious issues to ensure effective service delivery 
- Work with the Centre staff to integrate volunteers into the charity, ensuring they are valued and supported, and that productive working relationships between volunteers and staff are developed 
- Organise regular social and thank you events to recognise volunteers’ contributions, and co-ordinate local contribution to national volunteering initiatives 
- Support the Centre Manager in the development and implementation of a local volunteering plan. Work with colleagues across the organisation including the Volunteering Department, BSU, Health and Safety and L&D teams to integrate Cats Protection procedures in to local volunteer practice 
- Raise the profile of volunteering at Cats Protection in the local community. Network with local charities, Volunteer Centres and other relevant groups 

In common with all posts, ensure compliance with Cats Protection’s policies and procedures, statutory obligations and best practice, and to undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Chief Executive. Person Specification: 

- You will be highly motivated with previous experience of managing a team of volunteers 
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service and organisational skills are essential 
- Ideally you will have a background of working within an animal welfare environment (desirable) 
- Applicants must hold a full clean driving licence
