We are currently looking to recruit a Communications Officer in Wakefield.

Your role will be to support the Principal Communications Officer in the delivery of the Departmental Plan. To support operational policing activity and increase public confidence and satisfaction through internal and external communications across all available channels.

For this role, it is essential that you have a degree or relevant qualification in one of the following communications fields: journalism, PR, Digital communications.

Key requirements for this role :

* Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics and Force Purpose and Values, taking appropriate action to ensure that all your team members do likewise.

* Identify and implement opportunities to enhance and protect the reputation of the Force and improve public confidence, through targeted two-way communication.

* Provide communications support and support for operational policing at Divisional and Departmental level, in line with the Force Corporate Communications Strategy and Policy.

* To analyse, present and promote information on all aspects of the work of the Force for internal and external audiences, through written, audio and visual material, including images, video and digital communications.

* Propose media strategies for dealing with communications issues both internally and externally, advising officers and staff, managing media enquiries and where required, attendance at and support for major and critical operational incidents.

* Advise and support officers and staff on appropriate use of digital communications and production of written publications, both internal and external, in accordance with legislation and in compliance with Force guidance, ensuring the Force communicates with the wide range of communities which it serves.

* Attend meetings internally and with partner agencies & organisations, agreeing joined up communications which meet corporate and Divisional/Departmental objectives.

* To deliver training to officers and staff at all levels on communications issues, particularly those who directly interact with the public.

* Work closely within the wider Corporate Communications portfolio, as requested by the Principal Communications Officer, to ensure communications meet corporate objectives.
