We are currently seeking to fill the following role:

Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent (3 posts)
Salary: £16,000 to £18,000 per annum depending on experience

As a Support Worker, you will have an important role in working as part of a wider team supporting individuals as part of the Substance Misuse Service delivery. Key responsibilities will include working with clinical teams to monitor and observe individuals during the administration of their medications.  Support Workers also provide individuals with important health and harm reduction information and advice covering a range of areas, as well as basic levels of recovery focused psychosocial support. You will also contribute to the continuity of care through effective liaison with partnership agencies and undertake key administrative tasks including the collection and inputting of data and information systems.

Your role will be based at HMP Portland, and HMP The Verne. HMP Portland is a Category C, male Adult/Young Offenders Institution, and HMP The Verne is a Category C Training Prison for Men Convicted Of Sexual Offences (MCOSOs).

You will already be an effective communicator, comfortable with conveying key information efficiently and effectively both in writing and verbally. As well as proficient with administration and IT skills, you will be experienced at managing your own time, workload and priorities. You will have at least five GCSE’s (or equivalent) and either hold or be willing to undertake a Vocational  Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care.

Whilst not essential, previous experience of working within a similar recovery orientated environment and/or as part of multi-disciplinary team in a social or health care environment, would be a distinct advantage.  This could include experience of: administering drug and alcohol tests, working with people with drug and alcohol problems, assessment and individual care planning, involvement in delivering a range of evidence based psychosocial interventions in 1:1 and group-work settings.

You will be keen to develop professionally through our training programme and will demonstrate a high level of integrity and enthusiasm for working within the structured environment of a prison.
