You will be preparing designs and specifications, by coordinating and incorporating design information from architects and other building professionals to produce designs that meet the needs of the client and are value for money. You will also assist the Architect to provide quality assurance for a range of new construction projects, alterations and redevelopments, by ensuring the schemes delivered meet client requirements, are functional, safe, sustainable, economical and aesthetically pleasing. Whilst also delivering the day to day CAD drawing requirements of the team.

What you'll be doing:

* Be customer friendly, efficient and connected in how you work; make the most of modern technologies, workspaces and ways of working to provide a customer focused and efficient service, and bring forward ideas for service improvement.

* Prepare designs, coordinating and incorporating design information from architects and other building professionals to produce designs that meet the needs of the client and are value for money. Analyse and advise on designs and detailed specifications for suitable materials or processes to be used. Identify performance and functional issues during the design process and work with the assistance of the Architect and other building professionals to resolve.

* Maintain a good standard of knowledge of architectural solutions including emerging technologies in order to produce innovative designs that meet client requirements.

* Engage with clients to understand and incorporate their requirements into designs.

* Evaluate and comment on environmental, legal and regulatory issues. Ensure the relevant space and design standards are applied to schemes.

* Prepare information for submissions to obtain planning and building regulations approvals for a range of projects.

* Determine what surveys are required before work can commence and ensure the outputs of surveys are incorporated into the designs.

* Evaluate and advise on refurbishment, re-use, recycling and deconstruction.

* Prepare specifications and tender documents and procure works or services. Manage contractors on projects of moderate complexity with assistance from line manager.

* Undertake sufficiency/space assessments to determine if buildings are of a sufficient size and layout to accommodate their users. This includes assessments of school premises to determine if they are able to accommodate additional pupil numbers.

* Manage own workload to a reasonable degree of efficiency with guidance and assistance from the Architect.

What technical skills/ qualifications do you need to have?

Essential

* Degree or Construction Industry equivalent qualification.

* Production of drawings using computer-aided design and traditional methods.

* Planning and coordination of design information from building professionals to produce holistic design solutions that are value for money.

* Determining surveys required and incorporating survey outputs into designs.

* Writing specifications and tender documentation to procure contractors.

* Planning and Buildings Control processes and requirements.

* Creative and able to create innovative designs.

* Understand the level of detail required for drawings at different stages of construction projects.

* Good standard of knowledge of architectural design solutions and ability to identify design, environmental and sustainability issues.

* Excellent AutoCAD skills and ability to produce drawings using traditional methods.

* Good knowledge of building regulations, planning and associated statutory legislation.

Desired

* Architectural Technology Degree or part Architectural Degree.

* Chartered architectural technologist (MCIAT).

* Design using Modern Methods of construction.

* Contract administration.

* Knowledge of Department for Education Building Bulletins.

* Knowledge of NHS Building Notes.

* Working knowledge and experience of health and safety risk management in construction work, including the requirements of CDM 2015, the Building Regulations and Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations
