Community & Volunteer Development Officer
 
18.75 hours a week, £8,532pa actual (FTE £17,063), 13 months, 3 months, Bosavern Community Farm, St Just, Cornwall TR19 7RD 
Director of BCE Management Board Farm volunteers including Wwoofers
 
Purpose: The Community & Volunteer Development Officer (CVDO) will establish an imaginative programme of education and community development that builds on current achievements and provides opportunities and resources to support the farm through the next, critical stage of growth. 

Key Outcome for this post: 
That the Farm becomes a vital centre enabling local people to gain practical experience of 
growing food and learning new skills 

Indicators: 
Expanded volunteering programme; organised events/workshop programme; develop schools links; and identified potential training partnerships with colleges and universities 

This will be done by 

  • Developing volunteer programme to increase public engagement with the Farm; support volunteers with their individual development (approx. 50% of time) ?
  • Establish year-round programme of events and workshops, including a programme of workshops centred upon propagation, growing and harvesting, for domestic-scale growers (approx. 25% of time) 
  • Work with local schools to identify how we can increase educational visits to the Farm and how our work will fit into national curriculum (approx. 10% of time); work with other relevant local groups to increase use of Farm as beneficial to physical and mental health ?
  • Support development of the Bee Education Centre (approx. 10% of time) working with our Beekeeper and relevant volunteers ?
  • Support development of Allotments at the Farm (approx. 5% of time) ?

Job Description - Community & Volunteer Development Officer - September 2018 

Duties and responsibilities:

You will be required to work collaboratively with Directors, employees and volunteers to: 

  1. Volunteers: Develop volunteer recruitment and support programme by working with the local community to develop a framework of opportunity to engage a greater number and diversity of volunteers in all activities at the Farm 
  2. Community: Working with the community, develop an imaginative, wide-ranging programme of events and workshops ?
  3. Education: Build on existing partnerships and create new ones with schools, colleges and other learning establishments/organisations/individuals to develop relevant programmes and opportunities for using the Farm as a recognized and diverse place of learning.
  4. Ensure that record keeping systems are in place to record, monitor and review all activities taking place so the impact of the activities can be gauged. General 
  5. Every member of staff of Bosavern Community Enterprises has a responsibility to ensure ?they work in a manner that conforms to the Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety, and other Management policies and procedures, as well legal stipulations and a general duty of care.
  6. Members of staff are always expected to behave with each other, volunteers and members of the public in a manner that is courteous and respectful. ?
