Eden Search & Select is delighted to partner with a pioneering grower in the fresh produce sector to find a Head of Growing for a new enterprise in the Eastern Counties.
Our Client
Our client has an excellent track record of building innovative and pioneering fresh produce production units and is currently developing a new production unit that will be the first of its kind across Europe. With the support of a parent company and a long-term commercial agreement with an international food manufacturer, our client is looking for an experienced Head of Growing to lead this new venture managing all production and processing on site.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Board and with full autonomy of the unit, the Head of Growing will lead the management of crop continuity using lights and temperature controls to develop the production process and deliver improvements in crop yield within the protected environment. The role will recruit and manage the team at the site (3 direct reports and up to 18 on site) to ensure production and processing targets are met whilst exceeding customer standards. When the first unit is successfully operating to its potential, the Head of Growing will move into a wider General Manager position setting up other production sites across the country.
The Person
To be suitable for the role, candidates could either be a Head of Growing, Growing Manager or Senior Farm Manager within the glass house fresh food industry with an enthusiasm to learn about a new production technique. Candidates will demonstrate the mindset to run the new unit like their own business with the financial acumen to create budgets and the commercial nous to deliver them. BASIS & FACTS would be an advantage but not essential as more emphasis will be placed on finding suitable candidates with a strong team ethic and entrepreneurial spirit to work with the Board on the development of other future projects.
