Associate Principal opportunity with Freeman College, Sheffield, a specialist college for young people 16-25
Freeman College is a unique and inclusive specialist college providing experiential education for young people, aged 16-25, with a variety of complex diagnoses including autistic spectrum conditions, mental health conditions, ADHD and challenging behaviours. There are currently 32 on roll on both day and residential placements (36 or 52 weeks).
The college is situated in the heart of Sheffield with the main site based in a beautiful brick former cutlery works, a short walk from the railway station. There are other sites in the suburb of Nether Edge where the newly refurbished Merlin Theatre is located, and Stannington the 8-acre bio-dynamic market garden site. The College runs various successful social enterprises: Fusion Caf??, vegetable box delivery scheme and the Gallery.
The College is a part of Ruskin Mill Trust who operate five independent colleges, two specialist schools and life-long residential and training provisions for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities across the country.
Ruskin Mill Trust has developed its unique brand of expertise, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) using the insights of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris. This method provides students with holistic learning by role modelling positive relationships in the fields of arts, crafts, commerce, agriculture, nutrition, living skills and the environment. By immersing students with the productive aspects of the curriculum, they learn to overcome their barriers to learning and to care for their own wellbeing and development improving their independence levels and contributing to society.
As the Trust continues to evolve, the College is seeking to expand its senior leadership team by appointing an Associate Principal. They will work with the Executive Principal, providing cohesion across the college in which the vision and method of PSTE is secured through excellent practice. The Trust has ambitious development plans which will see its leadership structure continue to evolve and these roles will provide you with the opportunity to grow and develop your skills and career.
Candidates must share the college's ambition and model it in their daily practice and leadership to inspire and engage students and staff. You must also be a compassionate leader who can hold staff to account whilst being accountable yourself. Above all, you will share the passion and belief that young people, their learning and developing their potential are at the heart of all decisions.
