Our Client

Our client is rapidly expanding and innovative Waste Management Company providing a wide range of Waste and Recycling Services across the South of England.

Purpose and Responsibilities

Ace Recruitment has a fantastic opportunity for a Transport Manager to join one of the waste sectors leading family owned companies on a fixed term contract. Reporting directly to the Depot Operations Manager, the jobholder is responsible for assisting with the safe and efficient operation of the waste collection contracts and the defined areas of responsibility within the depot, including the management of the employees they are responsible for. The jobholder will ensure full compliance with all legislation regarding the Company's activities and, in particular, the Company's Goods Vehicle Operating Licence. The jobholder must make every effort to ensure, through their Transport Office staff, drivers and operatives, that all customers receive the required service on the due day by using and managing resources available to them.

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Contract Management team to ensure the contracts on the airport run smoothly.
Attending monthly meetings with the Contract Management team and actioning points relating to the airport.
In conjunction with the Contract Management team, developing initiatives and reducing costs for the Airport Contracts.
Assisting them to ensure that all Company Compliance, Health & Safety and HR policies and procedures are complied with in a fair and consistent manner at all times.
Assisting them to maintain awareness levels of all employees regarding Health & Safety and Security.
Assisting them to ensure all new personnel are trained and inducted appropriately at the earliest opportunity in line with Company Policy.
Assisting them to ensure probation periods are meaningful and reviewed on time, identifying any areas of concern early on and taking the necessary corrective or disciplinary action in line with Company Policy.
Assisting them to ensure attendance is regular and identifying and acting upon absences in line with Company Policy.
Assisting them to ensure that regular meetings/toolbox talks take place with employees to encourage feedback and to share new ideas in a consistent manner.
Assisting them to ensure that the Performance Related Bonus or weekly/monthly bonus scheme is operated fairly and consistently within the scope of rules that are currently in force and making the appropriate reductions where necessary using the correct form and ensuring the employee and Depot Operations Manager are notified of any deduction made.
Assisting them to ensure that all mobile workers' hours are managed and recorded strictly within the legal regulations in force.
Assisting them to ensure all accidents and injuries are reported promptly and correctly and that any follow-up actions are implemented in a timely way.
Identifying any training needs in liaison with the Health & Safety Manager or H&S Advisor.
Assisting them to ensure that, in conjunction with the Fleet or Workshop Manager or vehicle hire companies, that all vehicles are checked and maintained in a fit and roadworthy condition at all times in accordance with the Company's Goods Vehicles Operator Licences.
Ensure that all drivers within the area of responsibility are given a thorough and proper debriefing at the end of their daily shift.
Assisting them to ensure that the Depot is prepared at all times for any unscheduled checks and inspection by the Board of Directors, the Health & Safety Manager or any representative of a regulatory authority.
Ensure full compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including health and safety and employment.
Any other duties, such as ad hoc projects, as requested by the job holder's manager or the Board of Directors that are within the skills and capabilities of the job holder.

Person Specification

You'll also have:

Confident communicator, both written and verbal, with employees and customers.
Computer and IT literate with a good understanding/working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and databases.
Good numeric skills to enable an understanding of budgets and manipulation of data for reporting purposes if required to.
Strong supervisory skills to assist with motivation of team in order to achieve success at the depot.
Ability to move and change systems and processes within a growing business.
Good cost-control skills to assist with ensuring budgets and targets are met.
Strong judgement-making skills.
Posses a sound working knowledge of current, and any upcoming, legislation that may affect the Company's business i.e. Health & Safety, EU Drivers' Hours and Goods Vehicles Operating Licensing and a good understanding of Employment Law.
Track record of delivery of continuous improvement in the field of Customer Service.
Strong relationship-building and influencing skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Practical hands-on approach, promoting a 'can-do attitude' from self and team.
Understanding who the customer is and promoting excellent customer service skills through all depot personnel.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Transport Management: 3 years
Driving Licence
CPC Operator Licence
Waste/Recycling Sector Experience: Preferred
