Responsibilities
The advantage of this new start in life is that no day will be the same, each day will bring a new fulfilling experience.
* Adhere to and implement student behaviour plans/ behaviour strategies
* Ability to monitor students' progress and set new targets whilst communicating effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and students
* Work under the direction of the teacher during sessions
* To deliver a high standard of support for learners with ALS needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
* Students require a lot of social/emotional/pastoral support particularly within their friendship group
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and students
* Developing learners' English and Maths skills whilst keeping students engaged on the task
* Supporting students' needs including at times of distress, anxiety, and confusion this may be during breaks and lunch time
* Promoting students independence within the community and college environment
* Escorting students to and from taxis and during activities in the community
Requirements for this role
* Caring, understanding nature with a real desire to support students with additional support needs
* Understanding of what a 'person centred approach' means
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Be able to work under own initiative
* A proactive and "common sense approach"
* Understand the concept of "support" in education being different to "care"
* Manage stressful situations
* Be able to support students who may experience challenging behaviour and/or emotional difficulties
Desirable for this role
* Experience of children/adults with ASD/Asperger Syndrome
* Experience of SLDD settings
* Teaching experience
* Teaching support experience
