The Estates team provide an exceptional high quality service to our residents. As an Estates Gardens Operative you will be expected to meet the daily challenges that come with maintaining building and grounds services whilst continually providing a safe environment in which the residents can enjoy life. Residents are at the heart of what we do and the Estates team therefore enjoy day to day contact with older people, have patient and excellent communication skills to reassure and assist as required. The Estates team work flexibly and assist other team members on a variety of tasks when needed.

Reporting to the Gardens Team Leader, the Estates Gardener undertakes all gardening and grounds duties across all sites for the Trust.

Duties

1. To undertake all gardening and grounds duties for the Trust, including the maintenance of lawns, borders, flowerbeds, paths and ponds.

2. To work with other members of the Estates team to provide a high quality estates service that includes security, maintenance and gardening tasks.

3. To work in line with the Trust's policies and procedures and health and safety legislation.

4. To undertake all other duties as and when reasonably requested.

Tasks - General

1. Undertake all gardening activities required to maintain the lawns, borders, flowerbeds, ponds and paths across the Trust. This may include out of hours work or weekends to cover specific needs such as watering (using a rota system), includes digging, raking, hoeing & lifting.

2. Maintain all SMT grounds, including the erecting and maintain of fencing, gates with larger ground works around patios, block paving and wooden decking areas.

3. Ensure an adequate supply of plants and shrubs through multiple tasks at the correct time of year including sowing, planting, potting, weeding, pruning and generally caring for plants.

4. Safely operate a wide range of gardening equipment and chemicals.

5. Provide support and advice to residents who wish to engage in gardening activities.

6. Pay attention to detail to maintain the high standards expected in the gardens.

7. Maintain a safe and secure estates environment by monitoring, reporting and recording any estates services concerns including those of a safety nature via the Trust's maintenance and incident reporting systems.

8. Action and priorities jobs/tasks logged against the Worxhub systems which will include the cleaning and maintaining of any Trust assets/equipment.

9. Assist with the general site security with the emphasis on ensuring authorised garden and grounds areas are secure.

10. Assist the duty fire marshal in the event of fire alarm activations, directing residents, colleagues and visitors accordingly.

11. Respond to site emergencies including emergencies involving utility services, extreme weather or environmental disasters. This will require co-ordination of the appropriate response and emergency procedure, which may require additional hours of cover.

12. Assist with the management of contractors including directing them as necessary to ensure their standards meet those expected by the Trust and the HSE whilst on site.

13. Respond appropriately to any queries from a resident, colleague or visitors, re-directing the queries where necessary.

14. Assist with the estates waste management systems by ensuring regular and ad-hoc waste and recycling collections have been meet and all waste and recycling areas are kept clean and tidy.

15. Assist if required with site events and activities. This may involve the movement or re-arrangement of furniture and equipment.

16. Assist, if required, with the distribution of internal and external post and communications.

17. Drive any of the Trust's vehicles including, if required, the mini-bus (providing qualified to do so).

18. Travel and work across all sites, which have large grounds with multiple buildings, as and when required. This will also include long periods of lone working.
