Terms, conditions and benefits:
- Hours per week : Part Time 18.5 hours per week (working on a rota pattern)
- Contract type: Permanent
- Pay: £17,792 - £18,870 per year (NJC Scale 15 - 18), (pro rata for part time) starting at the bottom of the scale
We are looking to recruit part time staff, who will provide high quality support and housing management for homeless young people (including care leavers) in our medium to low support hostel, Southwold House, in Yate.
Working as part of the hostel team and our wider South Glos team you will provide support and practical help to enable young people to develop their independent living skills. You will ensure that the building is managed effectively, keeping it clean, safe and secure. You will have daily contact with young people, supporting them in their goals and wellbeing and dealing with any problems they may have.
Our work is rooted in providing support in a Psychologically Informed environment framework known as PIE and through reflective practice we are always learning from our own and each other’s experiences.
Each shift will be different, depending on the needs of the project, but will involve:
- Responding to queries from young people, providing face to face support as necessary.
- Making sure that communal areas are clean and checking the building for any health and safety concerns - reporting maintenance where it’s needed.
- Overseeing the security of the building
- Co-ordinating management of challenging behaviour within the project when it happens.
- Ensuring all handovers with colleagues are comprehensive and relevant
This role offers a great opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and experience in support work, particularly within supported accommodation. Our commitment as a learning organisation means you will be able to develop in the role and we will provide a full induction and ongoing training.
- You have empathy and understanding of the needs of homeless young people, young people leaving care, and the barriers they face. You like being around and working with young people.
- You have a real interest in helping young people develop their confidence and their independent living skills.
- You are hardworking, willing to be flexible in your role and able to work Fridays (fortnightly) and weekends
- Whilst experience of working in the supported housing sector would be desirable, it is not essential - having a positive, can do attitude is the most important thing.

You will be working as part of the South Gloucestershire Team based at Southwold House in Yate and line managed by the Hostel Team Leader (Southwold House).
About us 1625 Independent People prevents youth homelessness in the South West and has been helping 16-25 year olds reboot their lives for over 30 years. With around 100 employees in six locations, we provided housing and support to around 2500 young people last year.
